"It's in black and white!" Josiah continued ruthlessly. "If you try to go crawling back to her now, aren't you terrified of what Callahan Langley will do to you?"
Josiah had begged him not to sever ties with Leilani, but Hackett had refused to listen, throwing a tantrum instead. Hackett was the one who had treated his own daughter like merchandise to be pawned off for cash.
And now he expected to snap his fingers and have Leilani rush back to save them, letting bygones be bygones?
It was absolute lunacy.
Josiah took a deep breath, trying to rein in his boiling frustration. "Dad, wake up! Leilani owes this family nothing!"
If anything, the Sloans owed her a debt they could never repay. Considering the sheer amount of psychological torture they had put her through, they should be thanking their lucky stars she wasn't actively trying to destroy them.
The truth was ugly, and Josiah laid it bare.
Hackett, who deep down knew Josiah was right, felt the sting of exposure. His guilt instantly morphed into defensive rage.
"You... shut your mouth!" Hackett trembled with fury. He snatched the tissue box off his bed and hurled it at Josiah's head. "You have no right to speak to me like that!"
Meanwhile, Zeus and Clive stood frozen, staring at their older brother in stunned disbelief.
"Severed ties?" Zeus blurted out. "When did he sever ties with Leilani? We didn't know anything about this!"
"If you don't care about this family, just admit it. Spare me the pathetic excuses. At the end of the day, you're exactly like Tamara."
The only difference was that they had bothered to show up at the hospital. Beyond that, they were identically useless.
Josiah spun around and aimed his sights on Clive. "And you. How many times did I tell you the company was struggling? How many times did I ask you to come in and help me? You smiled, promised you would, and then turned right back to your parties. You’ve been too busy leeching off wealthy women to notice whether your own family was dead or alive!"
"Josiah!" Clive flushed bright red, his humiliation flashing into anger. "What the hell are you talking about?!"
"Am I lying?" Josiah let out a harsh laugh. "Tell me exactly which part of that sentence was wrong. Were you not leeching off sugar mommas? Let's hear your version!"
