The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 838

Beatty looked at him like he was out of his mind. Not only was he acting crazy, but his grip on her arm actually hurt.

She violently yanked her arm free, pouting with extreme annoyance.

"What is your problem?! Stop being so dramatic!"

"You've been acting weird since the second we walked in."

"I haven't even gotten to talk to Grandpa properly yet. I'm not leaving."

Completely ignoring her brother's public meltdown, she pulled out the empty chair on Dante's other side and plopped down, leaning against the old man's arm affectionately.

"Ignore him, Grandpa. I'm staying for lunch. I'm starving!"

Betrayed by his own sister, Bagot was left entirely stranded. He couldn't leave without looking like an idiot, but staying felt like a literal slap in the face. The burning humiliation was agonizing.

Grinding his teeth, his chest heaving, he finally forced himself to stay. Fueled by a petulant rage, he aggressively yanked out the chair next to Beatty. The legs screeched harshly against the floorboards before he threw himself into the seat, his entire body rigid with tension.

Dante caught the tantrum out of the corner of his eye but said absolutely nothing. He simply went back to eating his meal as if the interruption hadn't even happened.

But sitting down did nothing to calm Bagot's temper.

His eyes locked onto Leilani like a hawk, intensely scrutinizing her every move, waiting for a chance to strike.

When he saw Leilani pick up a serving spoon to carefully ladle a small bowl of broth for Dante, Bagot sneered, instantly seizing the opportunity.

"Wow, Leilani, you really are attentive. You're so eager to do the help's work. None of us grandchildren would ever think to stoop that low. No wonder Grandpa likes you so much."

Leilani acted as if he were just white noise. Her expression didn't waver as she picked up the serving tongs and placed a helping of roasted vegetables onto Callahan's plate.
