The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 908

His face was ashen, drained of any sign of life. Beads of cold sweat dotted his forehead, and his lips carried a faint, terrifying purplish hue. His mouth was open, gasping for air that wouldn't come, producing only weak, desperate wheezes.

His body rocked unstably, on the verge of collapsing flat against the floor.

"Crash!"

The plate slipped from Zadie's hands, shattering sharply against the floor. Her lunch and jagged pieces of porcelain exploded in all directions.

"Hackett! Hackett! What's happening? Don't scare me like this!"

Snapping out of her shock, Zadie practically crawled over to him in terror.

While this wasn't the first time he had collapsed, she hadn't witnessed it firsthand the last time.

Remembering the grim warnings the doctors had given them before his last discharge, and seeing him in this state now...

Zadie's blood ran cold.

The moment she touched him, sheer panic seized her.

He was drenched in icy sweat, his clothes soaked through.

Seeing that he was already losing consciousness, Zadie threw her head back and screamed toward the bedrooms, her voice tearing with a desperate, sobbing hysteria.

"Josiah! Josiah! Get out here! Something's happened to your dad!"

Josiah was in his room taking an urgent work call. Hearing his mother's bloodcurdling scream, his heart sank. He barked a quick, "Emergency, call you back," threw the phone down, and sprinted out of the room.

The sight before him made his brow knot tightly.

Hackett had collapsed into Zadie's arms, completely unresponsive. Half of his face was twitching violently, his mouth drooping on one side to expose his gums. A horrific, rattling sound tore from his throat.
