"Ding—" The elevator stopped at Leilani’s floor. She reached out to take her suitcase. "Thank you."
Callahan didn't let go; instead, he leaned in slightly, looking directly into her eyes. "Add me on WhatsApp?"
Leilani froze, looking back at him.
He looked at her with a half-smile. "We've known each other for a while, eaten together twice. Adding each other on WhatsApp isn't too much to ask, is it?"
Leilani blinked, and upon realizing what was happening, couldn't help but smile. "Are you... afraid I'll run away, Mr. Langley?"
"Yes," he admitted candidly. "After all, a certain someone owes me quite a few favors."
Leilani took out her phone and added the new contact. "Indeed, you bail me out every time. If this keeps up, I won't know how to repay you."
She looked up, joking half-heartedly, "Good thing I saved you in Zamora, or my debt would be even heavier."
Callahan chuckled low and suddenly took a step toward her. The elevator door had been open too long and began to slowly close. In the confined space, the tall figure of the man approached. Leilani’s breath hitched; she instinctively stepped back, only for her back to hit the cold elevator wall. He propped one hand beside her ear, leaning down, his voice low and laced with a smile.
"Since you feel you owe me too much, then treat me to dinner a few more times."
Facing the accusation, Callahan looked indifferent, clearly used to it. He sat down opposite Dante calmly, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "I've been busy. I came to see you as soon as I got back."
"Busy, busy, all you know is busy!" Dante huffed, not interested in excuses.
Thinking that since Callahan was back, perhaps Ms. Cheney was also back, he didn't want the granddaughter-in-law he had his eye on to be snatched away. Dante leaned in with a grin. "By the way, about that girl from the Cheney family I mentioned last time, have you thought about it?"
Initially, Callahan hadn't been opposed to this. He had been curious about a young woman with such exceptional medical skills. However, he had been called away on urgent business and missed meeting her. Who would have thought he would meet Leilani in Zamora instead.
