Chapter 348 Proposal

Chapter 348 Proposal

It was going to be a sleepless night for the fourth branch of the hole family.

Howard was busy fending off the family head’s accusations, we Eleanor was stuck doing PR and trying to explain things to the Yates family. Meanwhile, Dustin was made to kneel in the ancestral hall to reflect on his actions, and after that, he was scheduled for a bunch of sessions with shrinks to “fix” his orientation.

On the flip side, over at the Reese family, Catherine was thrilled he never expected Eleanor to come through so big- dropping such a bombshell that took most of the heat off the Rose family

At the Ferris wheel amusement park.

Barnaby glanced at Hannah’s phone as she closed out of the code editor, then checked out the crowd behind them– everyone was busy gossiping on their phones, eating up the latest drama.

“So that’s how you found out he’s gay?” he said, though it sounded more like a statement than a question.

“Yeah,” Hannah replied, putting her phone away. “This says a lot

Barnaby picked up on her cue. “If you don’t beef up your phone’ firewall, you’re just asking for your secrets to get exposed?”

Hannah was speechless.

‘Shouldn’t the real lesson be not to keep private videos and photos on your phone?’ she thought.

As they chatted, they arrived at the Ferris wheel entrance.

The cabin glided to a stop right in front of them, and a staff member swung the door open. Inside was a cozy little table decked out with fresh flowers, wine, and a candlelit dinner. The pace was snug, but it had everything for a perfect night.

Barnaby took Hannah’s hand, gently helping her step inside.

The door shut behind them, sealing off all the outside noise and leaving just the two of them wrapped up in their own

romantic bubble.

Barnaby wiped his hands with a wet wipe, then poured some juice into Hannah’s wine glass and filled his own with champagne.

“Sweetie, happy holidays,” he said.

“Happy birthday, Barnaby,” Hannah said, her voice gentle and warm.

Under the moonlight, they clinked their glasses together. The Ferris wheel glided up smoothly, then paused at the very top, high above the city, framed by the night sky. Through the cabin’ glass, the moon hung above, surrounded by twinkling stars, while far below, the city lights of Kinswood glittered in a breathtaking display.

“Let’s eat something first. Don’t go hungry,” Barnaby said, setting his glass down.

“Okay,” Hannah replied, wiping her hands with a wet wipe before lifting the lid off the plate in front of her.

To her surprise, instead of a steak, there was an exquisite blue diamond ring sitting on the white plate.

Hannah was caught off guard-her heart skipped a beat, then started racing. She looked up at Barnaby, who was sitting across from her.

Barnaby smiled softly, his gaze soft and tender on her. “Sweetie did you know? When I was at my loneliest, most helpless, and darkest, you were the light that broke through my darkness

His world turned gray the day the Thole family discovered him and his mother.

She didn’t even know his father had a whole other family until Edmund came knocking.

Edmund forced her to leave his father, and she put her own life the line, just so Barnaby could keep living.

In the end, she actually did it-she died. And that’s when Barnally was taken back to the Thole family.

Life in the Thole family was absolute hell for him. Everyone except his father went out of their way to push him out- poisoning him, beating him up, spreading lies, locking him away threatening him-using every cruel trick they could think of just to make him leave.

To fight back and protect himself, he ended up having to stab someone. From that moment, it was like a demon was born inside him-dark, rebellious, and always on edge fresked out anone in the Thole family who’d ever tried to mess with him.

Successfullynlocked!

After that, nobody dared to come near him. He was completely out-except for his Lysander and his wife, who were the only ones that ever showed him any kindness.

That was the only bit of warmth he ever got in the Thole family, but it didn’t last. Once Lysander and his wife had their own baby, all their attention went to the little one, and Barnaby was left feeling alone all over again.

Back then, in the darkest corners of his mind, he thought, ‘If only that baby wasn’t here, maybe Lysander and his wife would pay attention to me again’

He was actually about to go through with it-alone with the baby in the nursery, ready to do something terrible.

But just as he was about to smother her with the blanket, that tiny, soft hand grabbed his, and she giggled.

That smile instantly melted all the darkness in his heart.

As she grew up, she was like a little sun, her bright smile lighting up his world. She was always sticking to him, protecting him, and telling him how much she liked him.

Barnaby said, “Back then, I thought maybe I was put on this earth just to meet you.”

Hannah stared at him, totally stunned. She never imagined that, as a clueless little kid, she’d unknowingly provoked such a big bad wolf.

But honestly, if she had to do it all over again, she’d probably do it all over again.

Who could blame her? He was so ridiculously handsome it was almost criminal, and she was hopeless when it came to good looks.

“Will you marry me?” Barnaby took Hannah’s hand, dropped to one knee in front of her, and looked at her, eyes full of love.

Her heart was overflowing, stuffed to the brim with emotion.

“You know, you have to be 20 to get married here,” she reminded him.

“We can get engaged first,” Barnaby suggested. “Or, if you’re up for it, we could head to Avalon tomorrow and tie the knot there-they only require you to be eighteen.”

Hannah blinked, a little overwhelmed. “This is all so sudden.”

Even though she could make her own decisions about her life, she still felt she should respect her elders’ opinions.

Barnaby said, “There are way too many guys eyeing you. I’m worried you’ll get snatched up before I can do anything about it.”

‘Especially that Joel guy-he never shuts up about how you’re supposed to be his fiancée!’

Barnaby knew he had to get her name on his marriage certificate ASAP if he ever wanted to feel at ease.

Hannah was speechless.
