“Leighton, where’s Zora? Is she alright?” Floyd was utterly furious after learning all the shameless things Wendy and the rest had done.

“She’s safe here at my place; everything’s fine.” Leighton stepped aside gently, letting Zora come into their sight.

Zora had already set down her glass and walked over.

“Grandma, Grandpa, Kian, Reed…” she murmured softly, looking flustered the moment she saw them all.

She had never meant to trouble them, yet word had already reached them through Jensen.

“Zora!” Opal hurried inside and pulled her into a tight embrace at once.

“I’m so sorry, honey. I failed to raise your mother right, letting you suffer so much unfair treatment.” She never thought Wendy would act so unreasonably, nor did she expect the three Knox brothers to stand by and do nothing to stop it.

“I’m so sorry, Zora,” Reed said guiltily. “I should have dropped you off at home after school.”

If he’d walked Zora home after school, she wouldn’t have gotten bullied by their aunt’s family.

“Grandma…”

Opal held on so tight it was like she was terrified Zora would vanish the second she let go.

Zora didn’t know how to face them.

The worry in their eyes was impossible to hide.

“Let’s all come inside and talk.” Seeing how flustered Zora looked, Leighton swung the door wide open and let them in.

“Leighton, thank you so much for looking after Zora,” Kian said as he walked in last, finally releasing the heavy worry weighing on his heart upon seeing Zora safe and sound.

“We’re family. No need for thanks. Please come in.” Leighton waved him inside.

Opal never let go of Zora’s hand ever since she arrived. “Don’t listen to a single word your mother says. The whole Knox family has lost their senses. From now on, we’ll cut all ties with them. You are only my granddaughter; you have nothing to do with the Knoxes anymore.”

She had always loved this sweet granddaughter dearly, yet she had never imagined her own daughter could be so blind and unreasonable. She had been utterly stunned the second Jensen called her with the news.

“Grandma…” Zora’s heart ached with soft emotion. She had thought they would blame her for being immature, but instead, they stood firmly on her side.

“Come home with me, Zora. I’ll protect you with all I have. Anyone who dares to bully you will have me to deal with.” Opal’s heart ached deeply seeing her uneasy look.

She had hoped things would calm down after Zora moved out, yet the Knox family had sunk even lower just for an outsider. She was completely disappointed in her own daughter.

“Zora, your grandma’s right,” Floyd added gently. “Come stay with us. We’ll make sure your mom and the rest of them never bother you again.”

He had always cherished his gentle, well-behaved granddaughter more than anything, and it pained him greatly to see how poorly Wendy had treated her.

What a damn mess.

“I’ve grown up now. I can take good care of myself.” Zora hung her head softly, gently turning down their kind offer.

“Zora, your mom doesn’t get to decide anything in my house.” Opal held her hands tightly with unshakable resolve. “You belong to the Marlow family, not the Knoxes. They don’t deserve you one bit. I’ll get full legal guardianship of you.”

She had once hoped Wendy and the others might wake up to their mistakes, yet they only grew more unreasonable day by day.

If the Knox family refused to treasure Zora, the Marlows would gladly take her in and love her wholeheartedly.

Opal no longer held out any hope that the Knox family would repent, nor was she willing to speak well of them any longer. They were simply a bunch of people who never knew how to cherish what they had.

“Grandma, it’s okay. I can be on my own,” Zora spoke softly. “I know how much you all care for me, and I don’t want you to worry or get troubled because of me. You’ve already done so much for me.”

Zora’s legal guardianship was once assigned back to the Knox family. Now that she had severed all ties with them, she had to get her guardianship transferred away for good.

She felt utterly uneasy remaining under the Knox family’s guardianship. Even if they never mentioned it, she would take the initiative to change it herself.

She never imagined Opal would decide to take her into the family’s guardianship. If Wendy found out, she would surely make trouble for Opal without end.

Ever since she moved in with the Marlows, Wendy had always looked down on her and harbored resentment toward the Marlows. Witnessing how unreasonable she’d acted earlier, Zora knew once her guardianship officially went to the Marlows, Wendy would surely keep pestering and making things hard for Opal and the rest nonstop.
