Chapter 18 A Meal Made Just for Her
Zora counted on her fingers, planning every detail clearly in her head.
Since arriving in Seacrest, she hadn’t gone shopping once while staying at the Knox Villa. She’d been given food and drinks, even if they hadn’t been great. She had no real idea how expensive things were in the city.
In her mind, her mentor had always taught her: one good meal of meat cost tens of thousands.
She’d grown up thinking in big numbers, so three million dollars didn’t feel like much-just more meat for
her.
As Zora stepped into the elevator to go down, she glanced at the elevator she’d taken earlier.
The floor display was stuck on 18. They hadn’t come down.
She probably wouldn’t get to see that pretty man again.
Zora liked good-looking people; they were easy on the eyes and made her feel happy.
She’d even put up with the Knox family for a while partly because they were all quite good-looking.
“Miss Knox, what did you buy?”
As Zora left the mall, the Marlow family driver was waiting. He stepped out and helped take the bags from
her hands.
“Thanks, Leo.”
Zora thanked him and climbed into the car.
“Miss Knox, Mrs. Floyd Marlow called. Mr. Jensen Marlow is home. We’ll make it just in time for lunch.”
He put her bags in the trunk, got in the driver’s seat, and pulled out of the parking lot.
Zora had shopped quickly, so they’d arrive right as lunch was ready.
“Okay.” Zora nodded in response.
“Zora, you’re back! Come eat,” Jensen said as soon as the car stopped.
“Yeah.” Zora got out.
After getting a beautiful princess room the night before, her face wasn’t quite so cold.
“Did you buy medicine? Are you feeling sick?”
Jensen took the bags from the driver, smelled the herbal scent, and looked at Zora with concern.
“No, I just got them to play with,” Zora said calmly, staring at the large bag.

Chapter 18 4 Meal Made Just for Her
Other girls her age wanted purses, nice dresses, shopping trips, or concerts. Why was his cousin different, buying a big bag of medicine just to “play with”?
“Be careful with them, okay? Don’t eat any by mistake. If you feel sick, we’ll take you to the doctor right away.”
Jensen didn’t understand, but he respected her hobbies.
“Mm.”
“Zora’s home! Honey, come eat,” Opal called, seeing her granddaughter.
“Alright, Zora’s back. Let’s eat,” Floyd said, rubbing his temples, taking off his reading glasses, and walking to the table.
Zora walked over too-then froze at the sight of the food.
Filet mignon, lobster tail, truffle mashed potatoes, seared scallops, roasted prime rib, garlic butter crab cakes…
These were all her favorites.
“Eat up, Zora. I didn’t know what you liked, but I thought you’d want something tasty since your cold’s better. I had the chef make appetizing dishes.”
Jensen watched her face. When he saw the faint happiness in her eyes, he believed the email he’d gotten that morning a little more.
He had gone to the office for work. Right before he left, an anonymous email landed in his inbox. It listed Zora’s habits and favorite foods in full detail.
He’d been suspicious and had his assistant check the sender, but found nothing.
The IP address was erased the moment it was sent.
When he got home, he still told the chef to make the dishes listed.
Zora hadn’t eaten much the night before.
The email was too thorough. Only someone who really cared could know that much.
Whether it was a kind gesture or someone asking for something, if it helped Zora, it was like a lifeline for them right now.
“Zora, let’s eat.”
Zora sat down. Jensen sat next to her.
Kian had been called into the lab carly and wouldn’t be back until night.
Zora picked up her fork and knife and cut into the filet mignon first.
The steak was seared to a perfect golden brown, juicy and tender.

She took a small bite-and almost cried.
It tasted similar to what her mentor used to make. It wasn’t quite the same, but after eating plain food for so long, it was perfect.
At the Knox Villa, everyone liked light, bland meals. Zora had eaten that way too.
But she actually loved rich, bold flavors.
When she first saw the Marlow meals, she’d thought she’d be stuck eating plain food again.
