Spotting Zora sitting inside the private room, Orion Mercer shifted his confused gaze Killian. “Killian?”

toward

Could this young girl really be Mr. H’s apprentice? She looked far too young, barely even an adult.

“Grandpa, this is Ms. H,” Killian said, having recovered from his initial shock as he made the introduction.

Hearing them keep calling her Ms. H repeatedly, Zora pressed her lips together, uncomfortable with the address.

She stood up. “My name is Zora Knox.”

After getting a clear view of her face, astonishment filled Orion’s tired, aged eyes. He looked back at Killian, then kept glancing between him and Zora, a vague, inexplicable feeling rising in his chest.

They had quite similar eye shapes.

“Zora… such a bright and beautiful name that carries warm hopes.”

Orion was wrapped in illness, but a rare smile appeared on his wrinkled face. His wise, kind eyes quietly studied Zora.

Her last name was Knox…

Zora was truly surprised that the old man knew the profound meaning behind her name.

Her mentor had given her this name because she had been frail and sickly as a child, prone to poor health. Zora stood for brightness and hope, symbolizing a brand-new start and a wonderful future.

While he sized her up, Zora was also studying him.

The elderly man was nearly seventy years old, dressed neatly in formal dark attire with his silver hair combed immaculately. He had mild and kind features, yet his brows showed obvious signs of illness, hinting his heart trouble had flared up not long ago.

“You may call me Mr. Mercer,” Orion spoke warmly, sensing her gaze.

Killian lowered his eyes in utter surprise. He could clearly tell his grandfather had taken a great liking to Zora.

“You can call him Killian,” Orion ignored his reaction and said gently with a smile.

“Nice to meet you, Zora. I’m Killian Mercer, feel free to call me Killian.” Killian introduced himself sincerely.

Since his grandfather had already said his name, he saw no reason to hold back. Somehow, just meeting Zora filled his heart with unexplained joy.

Zora stared at the grandfather and grandson pair. Their poised demeanors proved they were no ordinary people, yet she had never heard of the Mercer family in Seacrest. They must have come from out of town.

Killian softened his expression and pushed his grandfather toward the solid wooden table, and the three of them sat facing one another.

“Zora, here is the menu. Pick whatever you like, and I’ll have the staff bring it over.” Killian slid the menu toward her.

They had never expected Mr. H’s apprentice would be such a young girl. Had they known earlier, they would never have chosen this quiet lounge to meet.

Having no young girls in their family, neither of them knew how to interact with someone so youthful, and the strange feelings in their hearts left them rather flustered.

“No need, I have somewhere to be soon, sir. This is the medicine my mentor prepared for Please take it.”

you.

Worried about Hallie waiting for her, Zora took out a white medicine jar from her bag and placed it on the table.

“We fully trust any remedy made by Mr. H. Killian,” Orion smiled gently.

Killian had just ordered several delicate desserts. He set down the menu, walked behind the folding screen, and fetched an exquisite mahogany box as a thank-you gift.

“You have already rewarded my mentor enough,” Zora said softly.

“That reward was for Mr. H. This gift is specially for you, Zora.” Killian set the box beside her hand.

It was a small thank-you for her trouble of delivering the medicine in person.

Zora looked at the two men, knowing these gifts meant little to them, and finally stopped refusing.

“I have to head off now.” Zora checked the time; it was getting late, and Hallie would surely grow worried if she stayed longer.

“Wait a moment, Zora. I’ve already ordered these desserts. Let me have them packed up for you to take away. All the pastries here are handmade and taste amazing. I’m sure you’ll love them.”

A sudden sense of emptiness welled up inside both grandfather and grandson the moment they heard she was leaving. Killian stood up to stop her and quickly contacted the staff to prepare takeaway packages.

“There’s really no need…”

“We won’t hold you back if you must leave, but please take these desserts with you. They are extremely hard to reserve here and taste absolutely wonderful,” Orion spoke in a warm, tender tone, gazing at Zora affectionately.

“Your mentor told us to look after you, and mentioned how fond you are of soft and sweet pastries. That’s exactly why we booked this place in the first place.”

Zora could feel pure, sincere goodwill coming from the pair before her.

“Thank you so much.”

Since Killian had already called someone over and Orion had even brought up her mentor, Zora no longer insisted on leaving right away and paused in her steps.

She never imagined her mentor would share such trivial little likes of hers with them.
