Chapter 304 A Final Falling-Out
Everyone could tell the talk ahead would be far from easy. If Wendy kept hurting Opal over and over, they would not let her get away with it. It was time to clear up all the old issues once and for all.
Opal had raised Wendy for decades, so it was impossible for her to feel nothing for Wendy. Seeing how worn out Wendy looked now pained her deeply.
Elara and the others had left right after dinner, as they had other things to take care of. Leighton and Zora lived at Aria Estates, just a twenty-minute drive away, so they were in no rush to head home.
Now that Wendy was here causing trouble, Jensen wanted them to leave first, afraid Wendy would lash out at Zora again.
“Zora, you go on home. Grandma will head back soon too,” Jensen said.
He knew how much Wendy hated Zora. If the two crossed paths, Wendy would surely say something cruel.
Wendy had come to Marlow Manor and called them many times these past few days, but no one had agreed to meet her or picked up her calls. Her deeds had deeply hurt Opal and every other family member. That was why they stayed away all this time.
Zora glanced at Wendy standing outside, then looked back at Opal and the others. She didn’t turn down their suggestion.
She knew Wendy hated her, and her anger would only spiral out of control if Zora stayed for the talk.
Jensen supported Opal as she walked, and the group walked into a nearby private room. Zora and Leighton headed for the side exit to avoid running into Wendy.
Wendy caught sight of them leaving and shot daggers at their retreating backs.
“Worried about her?” Leighton noticed Zora kept glancing back every few steps.
“Yeah.” Zora nodded. She feared Wendy would upset Opal.
“Then we won’t leave.” Leighton took her hand and led her back into the lobby.
Inside the next private room…
Wendy still held back enough not to cause a scene out in public. But the moment the door closed behind them, she could no longer hide her emotions. Her sharp, bitter words cut through the air. “Why are you treating me like this?”

“Do you really not understand why we’re acting this way? We’re only taking back what our family once gave you.”
Opal felt sad about how things had turned out. She had hoped Wendy would calm down and admit her mistakes after all that had happened. Clearly, she had expected too much. Wendy now felt nothing but resentment toward the Marlows.
“Why do you get to take it all back? You gave those things to me!” Wendy’s eyes turned red with rage. “Do you have any idea what I’ve been through lately? I’m your own daughter. How could you treat me like this?”
She fixed Opal and Floyd with a furious stare.
“Let me remind you, Mrs. Knox. You are not part of this family.” Jensen’s face turned cold.
He had thought Wendy would have come to her senses after all this time, but she had not changed one bit. She acted as if she still held some special standing here.
Opal had agreed to see her only because of the decades they had spent together, yet every last bit of affection was fading away in this moment.
“Saying I’m not family doesn’t make it true! You raised me for decades. How can you cast me aside now? Since you took me in, you should have supported me and looked after me for the rest of my life!” Wendy shifted her hateful gaze to Jensen.
She blamed him entirely for her miserable situation.
“And
luck!”
you, Jensen! You’re cold and heartless! What you did to my family will bring you terrible
Her eyes were bloodshot as she glared at him, thinking about all the trouble that started after Jensen pulled his funding.
Reed let out a mocking laugh. “Jensen never did anything wrong. He won’t get cursed for simple choices. As for you, I’ve never seen someone so shameless. Do you really think our family has to take care of you forever? Are you out of your mind?”
“How dare you talk to me like that!” Wendy’s face flushed with rage. She raised her hand to slap Reed.
“Don’t you lay a hand on him! He’s the heir of the Marlow family, and you’re nothing but an outsider!”
Opal grabbed her wrist and pushed it away hard. Her gaze was cold and distant.
Wendy stumbled two steps backward.

“Mom… you’re calling me an outsider?” She stared in total disbelief.
“Yes. You have no ties to our family anymore. Keep this up, and the Knox family will face even worse consequences.”
Opal was completely disappointed, and her tone turned icy cold.
