Chapter 333 Her Leaving

Leighton’s sleep had gotten way better lately.

He still couldn’t sleep through the whole night and woke up multiple times. But even feeling groggy and half-asleep, he could always fall back asleep.

He’d gotten used to this weird sleep schedule over time.

It was a massive improvement from his terrible insomnia before.

“Let me check your pulse after dinner.”

Zora wanted to know exactly how his body was holding up. She also knew she couldn’t keep living at Leighton’s place forever,

George blew up her phone every single day.

He sent her crying emojis and nonstop messages each morning, bugging her to come home.

“Miss, are you coming back today? I’ll come pick you up?”

“Miss, you coming home? I’ll come pick you up?”

“Miss, it’s been three days. Are you coming back today?”

“It’s day four. I’ll be waiting for you.”

Zora found it funny yet a little helpless.

George was genuinely scared she’d moved out for good and never come back.

The second Leighton heard her say she wanted to check his pulse, a bad feeling popped up in his chest.

“Okay.”

After dinner, Leighton walked out of the kitchen. Zora sat on the sofa and waved him over.

“Leighton, come here. Let me check your pulse.”

“Zora, I just remembered I have work to do. We can do this another time.”

Leighton trusted his gut. He tried to sneak away to his study.

“It’ll just take one minute. It won’t bother you at all.”

Zora walked right up to him and pressed her fingers to his wrist.

She needed to confirm his recovery. If he was mostly healed, she planned to start moving out

soon.

She’d only stayed at his place temporarily to treat his sickness.

But now, the thought of not seeing him every day made her feel empty and a little sad.

Leighton couldn’t pull his hand away. He stared down at her small, soft fingers on his wrist.

Her nails were trimmed neatly, with a cute, healthy pink color. Everything about her hands looked soft and pretty.

The second her fingertips touched his skin, his whole heart turned warm and squishy.

“Leighton, you’re doing so much better now.

“You don’t have to worry about passing out alone on the floor with no one there to help you anymore…”

Zora pulled her hand back.

After two months of good rest and care, his once weak, broken body had healed a lot.

That worst-case scenario he feared-collapsing alone at home with nobody to find him-was basically impossible now.

As long as he kept taking care of himself, he’d keep getting healthier.

Before Leighton could speak, Zora talked again.

“I think another month or two of rest will fully stabilize your health.”

He’d damaged his body for over ten years. There was no way he’d fix all that in just a few weeks.

“Mm.” Leighton nodded.

Zora said softly, “I think I can move out now. You’re way healthier. You’ll be fine as long as you keep taking good care of yourself.”

“What?! You’re moving out? Where?!”

Leighton’s worst fear came true. He quickly grabbed her hand tight.

“I… my mentor got a house ready for me.”

Zora was shocked by how intense his reaction was.

They’d agreed from the start that she’d only stay with him short-term while treating his illness.

“You’re abandoning me just because your mentor has a place for you? Isn’t this your home too?”

Was she ditching him now that her mentor got her a house?

No wonder she’d suddenly wanted to check his pulse. She’d already planned to leave.

A weird, heavy sadness washed over Leighton.

Does she not need me anymore?

Zora frowned, confused. “I’m just moving to a new place. I’m not abandoning you.”

She had no idea why he’d use such a harsh word.

He wasn’t her possession.

“You said you wouldn’t leave. And I’m still not fully healed yet.

“You’re so ungrateful. I just fed you a nice meal, and now you wanna ditch your chef right after you’re full?”

Leighton looked into her confused, calm eyes and realized he’d overreacted.

He calmed his messy emotions and stared down at her with a slight cold look.

Zora suddenly felt guilty, like she’d done something wrong.

She thought about it for a second.

He really had just cooked her a whole feast-lemon fish, veggie fritters, spicy eggs and shrimp veggie chowder.

It all tasted amazing.

He wasn’t totally wrong, but something still felt off to her.

When did she ever say she’d never leave?

The only time she’d said that was to comfort him when he was drunk.

There was no way he’d actually remember any of it while drunk, right?
