That’s why she’d decided to pass on it by herself.
“Why don’t you want the giant candy apple anymore?”

Leighton watched people walk by holding those huge candy apples. Everyone around them stared, clearly jealous.
“If you buy it for me, I’ll definitely eat the whole thing,” Zora said honestly. “I’ve had way too much sugar today already.”
“Alright, we’ll skip the candy apple. But I’ll get you something else to take its place.”
Honestly, Leighton was worried she’d overdo it with sweets.
But she looked so happy and excited right now, and he didn’t wanna ruin her mood.
She’d been looking forward to all the classic winter treats, and he wasn’t gonna let her miss out on a single one.
“Huh?” Zora tilted her head, confused.
“Come on, follow me.”
Leighton grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward the candy shop.
“Excuse me, can I just buy one of your extra-long wooden sticks?” Leighton asked the clerk.
The clerk thought it was weird, but still handed him the stick.

The two walked out of the shop with just the long wooden stick in hand.
“Why’d you only buy a stick?” Zora asked.
“You’ll see in a second.”
Leighton kept holding her hand, leading her through the crowded shopping district.
They walked past the busy crowds, and a flower shop popped up not far ahead.
The shop was pretty packed with customers too.
“Watch your step,” Leighton said softly.
Zora held tight to his hand, dodging the people swarming around them.
It was super crowded inside, so Leighton pulled her close to his chest, shielding her from the

As soon as they walked in, a store worker came over to help them.
“Hi! How can I assist you today?”

Leighton glanced around at all the pretty flowers, then looked down at Zora, who was looking around in awe.
“Which flowers do you like?”
“You’re buying me flowers?” Surprise lit up Zora’s face.
“Mhm. Pick any bouquet you want.” Leighton nodded gently.
Zora knew he had plenty of money, so she didn’t hesitate. She quickly picked out a stunning bouquet of icy blue roses.
“I want these ones.”
Leighton handed the long wooden stick to the store worker.
“Can you take these roses apart, trim them up, and wrap them all around this stick for me?”
“Sure thing, just wait a minute.”
The worker did as she was told. She took the stick and the bouquet, then walked over to the flower station to get to work.
“Why are you taking the flowers apart?” Zora couldn’t figure out what he was doing.
“I’m making you a new, prettier thing just for you,” Leighton whispered right by her ear, quiet enough only she could hear.
“Everyone else gets regular candy apples, but my Zora gets something special. You’re not missing out on anything.”
The flower shop was loud and busy all around them.
Zora stood in front of him, and his soft, deep voice brushed against her ear.
A light, tickly feeling spread from her ear all the way down to her heart.
It felt like tiny little flutters in her chest, a weird feeling she couldn’t put into words.
Zora unconsciously squeezed her cup and frowned a little, confused by the strange flutter in her chest.

“What’s wrong? Is it too heavy? Let me hold it for you.”
Leighton noticed her frown and reached out to support her cup.

The drink was pretty heavy for her small hands. He’d tried taking it earlier, but she’d insisted on holding it herself.
“I’m good. I can hold it.” Zora shook her head.
She took a sip and ignored the messy, weird feelings swirling in her chest.
This strange feeling had been popping up a lot lately, so she was kinda used to it.
It never bothered her or hurt her, so she didn’t bother overthinking it.
She was never the type to overanalyze stuff. If she couldn’t figure it out, she just let it
While they talked, the worker finished up quickly.
“All done for you two!”
They both turned their heads.
Zora’s eyes went wide with shock, while a satisfied smile tugged at Leighton’s lips.
The worker walked over, holding a three-foot stick fully decorated with roses.
Every other customer in the shop stared over, totally blown away by the unique, gorgeous piece.
“I want one of those too!” a girl whined cutely to her boyfriend.
“I didn’t know you could make something like this with flowers! It’s so beautiful!”
“Whoever thought of this is so creative!”
The trimmed icy blue roses were wrapped tightly around the wooden stick, decorated with delicate ribbons and tiny glowing pearl fairy lights.
It looked absolutely breathtaking.
With every eye in the shop locked on them, the worker walked up to Leighton and Zora.
Leighton took the stick, then reached over and took the hot cocoa from Zora’s hands.
He placed the one-of-a-kind piece into her hands.
“Here you go. Your very own special gift.”

His voice was soft and warm, laced with a gentle smile.
Zora’s delicate fingers wrapped around the thin wooden stick.
Her long lashes dropped down as she stared at the flowers.
Everyone in the shop was watching them.
Zora loved sweet little surprises like this.
Holding something so special and unique that no one else had, she couldn’t stop smiling.
She glanced down at the flowers, then lifted her head with a bright, sweet grin.
“Thank you.”
Her clear, bright eyes were full of joy, locked on his handsome face.
Leighton looked down at her sparkling, happy eyes.
His heartbeat picked up a little, warm, fuzzy feelings rolling gently through his chest.
