Chapter 348 You Messed Up My Head
Suddenly, Leighton’s face was right in front of hers, taking up her whole view.
Their eyes locked tight.
His warm, soft breath brushed lightly over her cheeks.
Zora’s heart started racing out of nowhere.

She froze, lost in the moment, and heard his quiet voice.
“Is it me?” he asked slowly, obvious hope in his tone.
Her heart thumped over and over, loud and clear.
She frowned a little.
This fluttery feeling was way stronger than usual. Normally it was just tiny little twinges, but now her chest was pounding nonstop.
It wasn’t crazy fast, but she could definitely tell her heart was beating quicker than normal, making her feel flustered and jittery.
She had no clue what this feeling was.
She couldn’t make sense of it at all.
Without thinking, she put a hand on her chest and rubbed it gently, trying to calm the weird restlessness inside her.
“Zora?” His low, soft voice rang in her ears.
Zora snapped back to reality. “What?”
“Why’d you zone out staring at me?”
Leighton smiled softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners, never straying from her face.
Zora thought he was gonna say something serious. She lifted a hand and pushed his face away lightly.
“It’s your fault for shoving your face so close all of a sudden.”
She sounded a little annoyed.
She’d been deep in thought, and he’d randomly leaned in on her.

“Alright, my bad.” Leighton pulled back a little when she pushed him.
But the second her hand dropped away, he leaned right back in again.
“Did you figure it out yet?”
“Figure what out?” Zora pretended not to know.
“Who’s the second person in your heart? Is it me?”
Leighton was smiling, but his eyes stayed glued to her, desperate to see her true answer.
He looked like he was dying to dig the truth straight from her gaze.
“No.” Zora huffed.
She’d just started sorting out her thoughts when he cut her off out of nowhere.
Now she honestly couldn’t tell if it was him or not.
“No… huh?”
Disappointment washed over Leighton’s face instantly.
The smile in his eyes faded completely, leaving nothing but pure, obvious sadness.
“You’re the one who leaned in out of nowhere,” Zora mumbled quietly.
If he hadn’t interrupted her, she would’ve known for sure.
Leighton caught the hidden meaning in her words right away, and a bright smile spread across his face.
“So if I hadn’t gotten close, it would’ve been me?”
“I don’t know.”
He was way too good at reading into tiny things, and super full of himself.
She really wasn’t sure anymore.
“If you don’t know, that means I’m an option. You just haven’t confirmed it yet.”
Leighton was really good at finding little loopholes.
He just needed her to admit he had a special place in her heart.
That was all it took to calm his worried heart.

Zora stayed quiet.
He kinda had a point.
Before he’d leaned in and distracted her, his face was the first thing that popped into her head.
But then he filled her whole line of sight, and she got confused, losing her train of thought.
“You’re so annoying. You totally messed up my train of thought.”
Zora felt frustrated. She reached up and ruffled his hair roughly, sounding grumpy.
If he hadn’t bothered her, she would’ve had the answer straight away.
“My bad.”
Leighton let her mess with his hair all she wanted. She couldn’t get a good grip, so he even leaned his head closer for her.
She always tugged his hair whenever she threw little fits.
The last time she had a fever, Leighton had been pressing cold towels to her forehead to bring her temperature down.
She’d been fussy and whiny, annoyed at being woken up and bothered.
She’d randomly grabbed his hair and tugged it over and over again.
After a while, she’d calmed down and stopped fussing.
Sometimes she’d twist his hair into little loops and knots when he wasn’t looking.
When he noticed and looked at her, she’d grin awkwardly, feeling guilty.
Leighton once asked her why she only tugged his hair and never her own.
She said she hated ruining her own hair.
Her hair was shiny and super soft, like smooth silk. She hated losing even a single strand.
But every time she tugged his hair, she’d pull out a few strands without fail.
It always left Leighton both amused and helpless.
Realizing she’d sounded a little mean, she smiled awkwardly and fixed her words.
“But your hair looks really nice.”

She’d just complained about him, then quickly gave him a sweet compliment to make up for it.
Leighton always let her get away with it.
He was secretly glad he had thick hair, or there wouldn’t be enough for her to tug on.
“You’re still wrong.
“You keep asking me so many questions! I only have one brain!
“Do you just have a million questions stuck in your head?”
Zora could only focus on one thing at a time.
But he’d flooded her with questions all day, turning her brain into a total mess.
He let her tug his hair quietly without fighting back, and Zora slowly started to feel bad.
