Chapter 47 Pulse Check
“I’ll do my best.”
Finished
Zora didn’t catch the playful tone in his voice. She nodded earnestly, then rested her slender, fair fingers lightly on Leighton’s wrist./
Once focused on what needed to be done, Zora lost her usual quiet dufiness and blank look. She held her breath, her features calm and composed.
The three men beside her fell silent as well, watching quietly.
It was the first time Jensen had seen Zora like this. Her expression clear, her face set in full concentration- nothing like the girl who once seemed indifferent to everything. I was plain to see how genuinely passionate she was about medicine.
Leighton held out little hope. He’d seen countless doctors over the years, and none had helped in the slightest.
Still, he couldn’t bring himself to dampen the young girl’s earnest spirit. He’d long since grown used to his endless sleepless nights.
ett sat quietly to the side, watching one take the pulse and the other sit patiently waiting.
‘Did something traumatic happen to you in the past?”
Zora frowned slightly. This was far more than ordinary insomnia. He lay awake night after night, his body worn down to exhaustion, his mind strung tight like a stretched wire. If that tension snapped one day, the damage would be irreversible.
In worse cases, it could even lead to permanent brain damage, leaving him trapped in an endless sleep.
The faint amusement faded from Leighton’s brows. “Something happened when I was a kid.”
He did not deny it, yet gave no further details.
Take this for now. You’re in desperate need of sleep. If you don’t sleep soon, your body won’t hold out,” Zora said, not pressing for his private troubles.
Every person had their own secrets. She turned, rummaged in her small backpack, and pulled out a soft herbal sachet to hand to him.
‘You can tuck it under your pillow. Try not to think about anything at all.”
Her tone was completely serious.
“Thank you, Zora.”
The moment the sachet was out, a gentle herbal fragrance filled the air. It smelled similar to Jensen’s, yet richer and softer.
The scent was incredibly soothing. Perhaps because he was in a good mood today, Leighton felt the dull

ache in his exhausted brain case significantly.
He did not refuse it. Whether it worked or not, he couldn’t turn down Zora’s kindness.
Still, he doubted a simple sachet could fix years of insomnia.

Whenever his thoughts drifted back to that past tragedy, all he saw was endless red. Closing his eyes only brought pale, haunting faces. Sleep had become impossible.
For over a decade, he’d tried every treatment there was-prescription pills, hypnosis, nothing worked.
On his worst nights, doctors had to sedate him just to let him rest for barely half an hour before he woke again.
Take one of these before you sleep.”
Zora dug into her bag once more and held out a small wooden bottle.
Leighton stared at the plain, unmarked container. It was clearly handmade, still carrying a faint herbal
aroma.
The scent reminded him of the subtle, earthy fragrance that clung gently to Zora herself.
Perhaps because she studied traditional medicine, Zora didn’t smell of cosmetics or perfume. Instead, she carried the clean scent of herbs with a hint of quiet bitterness underneath.
Leighton closed his fingers around the bottle, keeping the lingering warmth of her touch in his palm.
He looked up at Zora, who was watching him.
‘Give it a try. If it doesn’t help, tell me and I’ll mix á new batch for you.
‘You should try it as soon as you get back after dinner. Your body is worn out and badly needs proper sleep.”
‘Alright. Thank you, Zora.”
A faint, soft smile tugged at the corner of Leighton’s lips, warming his pale, flawless features.
He’d grown tired of hearing the same old advice from everyone else. Yet when the young girl spoke in her earnest, matteroffact way, her words felt strangely soothing.
Leighton found it odd himself.
He didn’t dare argue back, afraid of meeting her confused, disapproving frown.
Leighton was truly afraid of that girl staring at him so seriously, her eyes clearly accusing him of being disobedient.
Their first meeting had been awkward; the second embarrassing. He had no wish to earn another awkward label in her eyes.
Leighton carefully put both the sachet and the wooden bottle away.

Finisher
“Hey Zora, can I get one too?” Jett looked at her hopefully. “I struggle sleeping at night as well.”
Zora turned to him, clearly confused. “I thought you had trouble eating, not sleeping?”
She hadn’t noticed any signs of insomnia in him.
“I can barely eat anything, and I lie awake, starving half the night. That’s what keeps me up,” Jett explained.
Without thinking twice, Zora rummaged in her backpack again and handed him another herbal sachet.
“Here you are.”
She thought it was good timing that they’d asked. She’d originally made these sachets for Yale and Anton a while back, but had never gotten the chance to give them before everything with Jolie unfolded.
