Chapter 68 Innocent Warmth Among Classmates.
Tessa let out a quiet sigh of relief.
She refused to believe Jolie had deliberately set Zora up; she preferred to believe Jolie’s explanation that she had simply been too terrified.
Jolie had just been terrified and made a careless mistake, never meaning any harm at all.
How could she ever doubt Jolie?

When Tessa had hurt her face once before, it was Jolie who found her a healing ointment that left no scar.
Jolie was the kindest person she knew, and Tessa was determined to stand by and protect her no matter what.
“Zora, come find me if anything troubles you.”
After walking a fully satisfied Zora back to Havenridge High School and seeing her safely to the classroom, Reed spoke in a caring tone.
“Got it, Reed.”
Zora was still holding a cup of iced chocolate, sipping it happily with a soft, well-behaved look on her face.
When Zora stepped into the classroom, most of the students hadn’t returned yet. Maya was already seated quietly, buried in a book.
She was a gentle, quiet girl.
Zora walked over with small, light steps.
“Z-Zora… I’ll move right away…”
Maya looked up from her book at the sound. Spotting Zora beside her desk, she scrambled to her feet, ready to make space.
Her foot caught on the leg of the chair, and she stumbled off balance. Zora’s eyes widened slightly, reaching out quickly to steady her.
Maya spun around and ended up falling straight into Zora’s arms.
Leaning against Zora, Maya’s cheeks flushed pink.

She’d thought she was going to fall flat on the floor, and being pulled gently into Zora’s embrace made her breath catch.

The girl still had the sweet aroma of iced chocolate clinging to her. She looked down at Maya with soft features, delicate and sweet like a fluffy vanilla pastry.
Maya couldn’t help thinking back to earlier that morning, when Hallie had suddenly kissed Zora on the cheek.
It must have tasted wonderfully sweet.
“Easy there, Maya. Falling hurts a lot.
“You don’t have to rush. I can wait a bit, it’s fine.”
Zora was still a little shaken herself, patting her chest lightly before taking another sip of her iced chocolate to calm her nerves.
She’d gotten quite scared just now too.
Maya seemed painfully shy, getting nervous whenever she spoke, as if she were afraid someone might eat her.
“Th-thank you, Zora.”
Maya pressed her lips together and replied in a tiny voice.
“Can you stand steady now? I’ll let go if you’re alright.”
Zora looked down at the girl in her arms; Maya’s face was completely flushed red, and Zora couldn’t figure out why.
“Are you feeling hot?” she asked sincerely.
The classroom air conditioning was running perfectly fine after all.
“N-no… I’m fine now, thank you…”
Maya stammered as she stood straight, her skin burning with embarrassment.
Seeing Maya stable on her feet, Zora slid into her seat, sipped her iced chocolate, and pulled out her literature textbook to read.
She wasn’t exactly studying—she just loved reading the stories inside, much like flipping through picture books.
They always felt fun and engaging to her.

Maya turned to glance at Zora reading quietly beside her. The blush on her cheeks lingered for
ages,
her soft lips tinted an even rosier shade from shyness.
She calmed her racing heart before sitting down beside Zora.
The sweet, creamy scent of Zora’s iced chocolate lingered all around her, wrapping around the girl’s soft, gentle aura.
Behind her black-rimmed glasses, Maya’s eyes softened, growing tender and warm without her noticing.
Zora was truly lovely.
It had been a full day of classes at school. Since it was the first day of the semester, none of the teachers had assigned homework or started formal lessons yet.
All in all, Zora thought the day had gone by easily and pleasantly.
She packed her schoolbag cheerfully, waiting for Reed to pick her up.
“Zora, how are you heading home?”
Hallie walked over and couldn’t help smiling at Zora, who looked just like a doll with her small backpack slung over her shoulder.
“Reed is coming to get me,” Zora answered obediently.
“Zora, you ready? Time to go home.”
Į
Speak of the devil. Reed appeared right at the classroom doorway.
“I’m all packed, Reed.”
Zora slung on her backpack and walked out of the classroom alongside Hallie.
“You don’t even leave me a chance to walk Zora home, Reed,” Hallie teased lightheartedly.
She’d intended to drop Zora off herself, just so she could spend more time with Zora.
“You’re more than welcome to join us if you’d like,” Reed smiled, taking Zora’s backpack from her shoulder to carry it himself.
Their families lived fairly close to one another, and the elders on both sides were well acquainted.
“Sure, I won’t say no to that.” Hallie stepped right up beside Zora with a nod, glad to get to stay close to her a little longer.

“See you at school tomorrow, Zora.”
The driver dropped Hallie off at her residence first, then Reed and Zora headed back to the Marlow Manor.
“Your backpack still feels pretty heavy. Didn’t you eat any of the snacks I packed this morning?” Reed asked after they got out of the car, hefting her bag lightly.
He’d stuffed it full of treats early that day, hoping she could munch on them whenever she felt bored.
“I did eat some, but Hallie and the others gave me even more. There wasn’t enough space left on my desk, so I brought the extra home in my bag.”
