Chapter 78 A Surprising Side of Leighton

Was this really her notoriously sharp-tongued cousin?

He always wore a smile and seemed easy to approach, yet there was an icy wall hidden between him and everyone else-no one could truly get close.

This gentle tone, this soft smile… it was almost like someone else had taken over his body.

Even his father had probably never seen Leighton this warm and agreeable.

If he had, he’d probably throw a huge party just to celebrate.

“I met him with Jensen before,” Zora said simply, making no attempt to hide the truth.

“No wonder my cousin phoned me earlier, asking me to look after you at school.” Hallie nodded in understanding.

She’d wondered why Leighton had called her a few days ago, telling her to keep an eye on the new transfer student in their class. Back then, she hadn’t even known who Zora was, yet she’d already been given the task.

Zora had no idea about this. She stared down at the box in her hands and asked blankly, “He asked you to look after me?”

No wonder Hallie had gone out of her way to be kind to her ever since yesterday.

Leighton had been behind it all along.

Zora thought about Leighton’s strikingly handsome face and nodded to herself.

Good-looking people really did have kind hearts.

Her mentor was like that, her cousins too-and now Leighton as well.

Truly all wonderful people.

If Hallie could read Zora’s thoughts, she’d have burst out laughing on the spot.

If Leighton ever found out he was labeled a total nice guy in Zora’s eyes, no one could guess how he’d react.

Everyone knew Leighton was gorgeous, but his sharp tongue was infamous. He’d reduced countless girls to tears with his cutting remarks. Most people saw him as a cold, unfeeling devil with a venomous mouth.

Yet somehow, he’d earned nothing but high praise from Zora. He’d probably grin in his sleep if he knew.

Unaware of Zora’s inner thoughts, Hallie could only marvel that her cousin actually had a humane side after all.

He’d hidden his true personality perfectly around Zora, putting on a flawless act.

Maybe he wasn’t completely heartless.

“Zora, hurry! Let’s see what my cousin got you!” Hallie stared eagerly at the box in Zora’s hands.

Leighton never gave cheap gifts, and she was dying to know what was inside.

“I have no idea,” Zora said, opening the box out of curiosity.

Inside lay a stunning pink diamond.

“It’s the Pink Heart of the Ocean!” Hallie’s eyes went wide with shock.

This diamond had been sold at an auction overseas for a whopping 600 million dollars.

Known as the Lover’s Heart, it carried a beautiful symbolic meaning and had been fought over by countless wealthy bidders.

The starting bid alone had hit 80 million dollars.

Hallie had even begged her dad to buy it for her once, but the price kept skyrocketing until her father refused to pay such an outrageous sum.

Word had spread that a mysterious private buyer from overseas had taken it home.

She’d never guessed that buyer was her own cousin-and now he’d given the priceless diamond to Zora as a welcome gift.

“Do you like it? You can have it then.” Zora held the box out to Hallie.

The pink diamond was undeniably beautiful, but Zora had no idea how valuable it was. If Hallie liked it, she was happy to give it away.

“No way, Zora. My cousin gave this to you-it’s yours,” Hallie waved her hands quickly.

She loved it, but she’d never take something that wasn’t meant for her.

This was Leighton’s gift to Zora, and she dared not overstep. One sharp look from her cousin would be enough to intimidate her.

Hallie couldn’t help suspecting now-Leighton had only dropped by her grandfather’s place yesterday and offered to drive her to school today just to see Zora. There was no other explanation.

When Zora walked into the classroom, most of her classmates were already there.

Sitting on her desk was a cup of iced chocolate.

Finished

It wasn’t from any mainstream brand; the cup was soft pink, printed with blooming peach blossom branches and a delicate lady in vintage-style attire.

Maya sat quietly beside her, buried in a book, gentle and reserved as always.

“Zora, you’re here,” Easton greeted her with a bright smile. He’d been playing games with Felix at his seat when he spotted her walking over.

“Hey.” Zora nodded and headed straight to her desk. Maya stood up at once to let her sit down.

“Did anyone leave this iced chocolate on my desk?” Zora asked Easton and the others sitting in front of her.

She could tell Maya was shy and kept to herself, so Zora didn’t bother asking her.

“No clue. It was already here when we got to class this morning.” Easton shook his head. “If anyone would know, it’s Maya. She’s always the first one to arrive.”

Everyone had been confused about who’d left the drink, and none of their classmates could figure it out.

“Zora, I think you shouldn’t drink something from an unknown person.”
