Chapter 87 I Forgive You
Zora never expected to keep running into the Knox family one after another.

She could not figure out why, even after moving out of the Knox Villa, she saw them far more ofter than before.
First Holden yesterday, now Anton today.
They took turns showing up one after another.
It left her utterly unsettled.
“Zora, are you settling in well at school?” Wendy walked into the living room. She spotted Zora sitting on the sofa with Opal, who was asking about her studies, then stepped over and took a seat beside them.
A gentle smile played on her lips, her gaze warm and full of concern as it rested on Zora.
“…Yeah.”
Zora was unused to such soft kindness from Wendy. She glanced at Opal beside her and gave a quiet reply all the same.
With her grandmother there, Zora could not let any cold or unpleasant feelings show toward Wendy. After all, Opal was Wendy’s mother.
No matter how much her grandmother doted on her, Wendy was still her daughter, and Zora was only a granddaughter.

She did not want Opal to worry or grieve over the conflict between her and the Knox family.
“Are you comfortable staying here with your grandma?”
A flicker of delight crossed Wendy’s eyes at Zora’s reply, and she softened her tone even more as she asked.
Anton had not left either. He sat quietly on another sofa, watching them, his gaze fixed steadily
on Zora.
He could clearly see her quiet resistance, masked and forced into restraint.
He could not understand why she seemed so guarded against every member of the Knox family.
It had not always been this way. Back then, she would greet him softly.
But ever since the incident a few days prior, she had no longer greeted them warmly, nor did

she speak to any of them.

She even treated her cousins with the warmth she had once reserved for them.
Her anger had dragged on far too long.
The family had clearly been in the wrong last time, and they had already apologized. Yet she still kept putting up a cold front toward them.
It felt unfair to Anton.
They were blood family, yet she seemed to fit right in with the Marlows as if she no longer belonged with the Knoxes.
“I’m okay here,” Zora replied in a flat, distant tone.

Zora had always been reserved and quiet. After a couple of simple questions, Wendy struggled to find more things to ask or ways to show she cared.
Even when they lived together before, Wendy had always been the one talking, while Zora only gave short, brief answers.
Zora was nothing like Jolie, who always chattered away and knew exactly how to cheer her up. Faced with this long-lost daughter, quiet and distant by nature, Wendy felt lost and unsure how to reach out.
She wanted to care for her, yet had no idea where to begin.
On top of that, Zora and Jolie clashed constantly back at the Knox Villa. Wendy felt guilty toward Zora, yet could not help feeling sorry for Jolie whenever she was bullied.
She could not understand why Zora could not make room for Jolie in her heart.
The mix-up at birth had been no one’s fault. Neither Zora nor Jolie had done anything wrong.
One was the daughter she had raised for years, the other the biological daughter she had gotten back after losing her. Both were equally precious to her. Seeing the two girls unable to get along tore at Wendy’s heart.
“Zora, I want to say I’m sorry for what happened between you and Jolie last time. I misjudged you, and I hope you can forgive me.”
Wendy reached out and took Zora’s hand, her eyes glistening with emotion as she looked at
her.
Watching Wendy offer such a sincere apology, Opal let out a quiet sigh of relief.
At least her daughter was not completely unreasonable.

“I forgive you.”
Zora felt uncomfortable with Wendy’s touch. She pulled her hand free, tucked it behind her back, and nodded faintly.
“Zora… really?” Wendy stared at her in pure surprise, never expecting Zora to forgive her so quickly. Joy welled up inside her, overwhelming every other thought.
She barely even noticed Zora pulling her hand away. Her heart was filled only with happiness.
Deep down, she had always known her daughter was kind-hearted and soft, quick to forgive a mother who had failed her so badly.
Anton watched from the side, eyes widening in confusion as he stared at Zora.
He could not wrap his head around it. She could forgive Wendy so easily, yet faced him and his brothers, she was sharp and cold, unwilling even to exchange a word.
“Mhm.”
Zora nodded indifferently.
She had never taken Wendy’s words seriously to begin with. She no longer cared about the Knox family at all, so forgiveness meant nothing to her.
If saying she forgave them would get them to leave her alone, she had no reason not to say it.
Only Opal sat there quietly, feeling a headache coming on. How had she raised such a clueless daughter?
Did Wendy not see that Zora’s forgiveness was only words, not heartfelt at all?
Zora had already let go of any longing for her mother.
“Stay here with your grandma a few more days,” Wendy said, completely oblivious to Opal’s troubled look, her face bright with joy as she spoke to Zora. “I’ll come pick you up and take you home soon.”
She had noticed the night before that Wayne did not want Zora back yet, still caught up in his anger. She planned to soothe her husband over these next few days, then bring Zora back to the Knox Villa.
