The smell of hot fries curled up from the basket between us when Miss Langford leaned back and gave me that proud. almost motherly smile.

“Red looks absolutely stunning on you, sweetheart.”

“Thank you….” I murmured, my cars burning.

The shopping bags were piled beside me, stuffed with dresses I never would’ve dared to touch before today-let alone wear Just a few hours ago, we’d walked the narrow streets of Moonvill past dark wooden storefronts and tiny windows draped in fabric that fluttered like it had a heartbeat.

The shops were small, but everything inside looked handmade. Delicate lace. Intricate embroidery. Pieces too pretty to belong in a town ruled by wolves.

After the shopping. Miss Langford brought me to one of the wolf taverns-heavy wooden tables, the mouthwatering smell of roasted meat, music thumping under the chatter, and alcohol strong enough to make an omega dizzy just by breathing Too close.

The place was packed with Alphas and Betas, every single one of them impossible to ignore. Broad shoulders. Hard stares. That effortless dominance in the way they carried themselves-ke the world naturally moved out of their way

Sometimes I wondered if the forest portal only let ridiculously attractive people through….

Or if wolves were just intense about everything. Even their looks

While Miss Langford drank her beer like she was sitting in her own kitchen, I tried to act like I belonged here-despite the fact that my new dress was light, red, and fitted at the waist.

Too fitted.

Too noticeable.

Too… me.

Then the waitress appeared.

She set a tall glass in front of me-pink and sparkling like a party dessert, with a slice of fruit perched on the rim.

“This is for you,” she said, smiling like she knew something I didit.

My eyes widened.

“But I didn’t order—”

“I know” She tipped her chun toward the last row of tables, “The Hot guy over there sent it.

And then she winked.

Slowly, I turned.

At the far table on the leti, a blond man lounged back with two others like he owned the place. One leg stretched out the other bent, his posture lazy in a way that was way too confident is golden hair fell in soft waves over his forehead, and the way he looked at me was shameless-like he had every right to strip me down with his eyes

Miss Langford let out a small, tired sigh.

“OT course…” she muttered. Not exactly to me “Vincent”

She watched him for a second, then spoke just loud enough for me to hear, in that tone people use when they’re talking to themselves but still want you to catch it.

“The picks a fight with Aula every chance he gets… even when he doesn’t realize he’s walking straight into trouble

What do you mean?” I asked, confused. “What did you say?”

“Nothing. She slid the glass toward the center of the table. “I’ll live the waitress take it back.”

Why did she sound like she was scared Alpha Atila would thinkmeone was… flirting with me?

I was still trying to untangle that thought when the entire pub sfied.

The air thickened
