The Rejected Principessa Returns novel Chapter 68

Chapter 2

Sophie just scoffed, as if I had said something utterly ridiculous.

“Is that it? You’re making such a fuss over nothing.”

“It’s canceled. Big deal. What’s so wrong with recovering at home? My generation all did it, and we turned out

just fine.”

“You young people just throw money away. Nathan may earn well, but not well enough for you to waste it like

this!”

“Ten thousand dollars for one month? Just who do you think you are, some kind of princess?”

His son earns barely ten thousand a month, not even enough to cover the annual HOA fees.

I fought back the humiliation, struggling to keep my voice steady.

“That was not your son’s money. My parents paid for it, they insisted…”

She cut me off, her voice sharp.

“Don’t hide behind your parents! You married into this family, you are a Hale now. There is no ‘yours’ and

‘mine’!”

“Your money is my son’s money. It is Hale money!”

She jabbed her finger right at my face, her spit flying.

“You’ve never worked a day in your life, just mooching off us, and now you think you deserve luxuries?

You should be learning to serve your new family, not checking into some fancy retreat! That is not the Hale

way.”

“Do you think having a baby makes you special? That is your duty as a wife!”

“And I am telling you, if that baby is not a son, we will see if you still have the nerve to act so precious!”

“Now get on the phone and find out where it is.”

“If that ten thousand dollars are not in my account by tonight, there will be hell to pay. You understand me?”

Looking at her face, twisted with greed, it all clicked into place.

She had been after this money from the start. “Saving money” was just a lie to get that ten thousand dollars

into her own pocket.

Before I married Nathan, he swore his parents were just simple, honest people from the countryside, with no

bad intentions.

And the few times I had visited his hometown, they had seemed just like that: quiet and unassuming.

My mother had warned me to be cautious. She said in-laws often put on an act to secure a marriage, and their true colors only show after the wedding.

I brushed it off at the time. I figured they lived far away and we were in the city.

We only had to see them for holidays. As long as we kept things pleasant, it would be fine.

I never imagined it would all blow up in my face so quickly. This was only the second day Nathan brought

them here for the birth.

Seeing her true motive, I said, my voice dripping with scorn.

“It does not matter if you canceled it. That money is never going to end up in your account.”

Sophie froze, her eyes narrowing as she tried to understand.

I let out a cold laugh.

“For a payment that large, the refund does not just go to anyone. It goes back to the original card.”

“The money came from my mother’s credit card, so it is being refunded to her account. It has absolutely

nothing to do with you.”

Sophie’s eyes bulged, and a muscle in her cheek started to twitch.

Her expression flashed from confusion, to disbelief, and then to a furious, humiliated rage. Her entire face

turned a deep crimson.

Looking at her, I just felt disgusted.

It is pointless to reason with someone operating on such a completely different, selfish logic.

I was done talking to her and reached for my phone to call Nathan back.

But Sophie lunged forward and snatched the phone from my hand.

“Then you call your mother right now! Tell her to transfer that money to me!”

I was floored by the audacity.

“Are you insane? It’s my mother’s money! Why on earth would she give it to you?”

“That money was meant for my grandson, so it belongs to the Hales!”

“You married in. Your parents’ money is your money, and your money is our money!”

Hearing those words, the sheer absurdity and rage just exploded in my head.

I lunged forward to get my phone back.

But Sophie did not just block me; she violently shoved her elbow outward, slamming it hard into my pregnant

stomach.

The force sent me staggering backward, and I barely caught myself on the furniture.

Then, I felt an uncontrollable, warm gush flooding down my legs, soaking through my pants.

I clutched my stomach, my face draining of all color as the pain hit.
