The Rejected Principessa Returns novel Chapter 77

Chapter 2

The two of them were tangled together on my marriage bed.

Our wedding photo on the nightstand shook with each movement.

I stared at that picture, taking in the woman’s tender smile and Alexander Hayes’ cold, distant gaze, and

finally understood that even souls could weep.

But Alexander, you don’t have to wait for next time.

Because… I’m already dead.

That day, panic consumed me. I tried to run, clutching my swollen belly, stumbling like a headless bird.

He stood there, watching me, his expression flat.

When his guards caught me and dragged me back, his patience finally snapped. He pressed me into the seat of the free-fall ride and strapped me down himself.

I could feel his eyes on me as the machine rose higher and higher, my screams slicing through the wind.

When the gush of warmth spread between my legs, I sobbed and shouted, “My water broke! Please, Alex,

save our baby!”

For a moment, he hesitated.

Then Lila, nestled weakly in his arms, whispered, “Didn’t Grace’s due date still have a week left? But she really

does look terrified… She even wet herself before it started. Maybe we should stop, I’ll be fine…”

And in that instant, disgust darkened Alexander’s face.

“Grace, you’re pathetic. Even using our child just to earn pity? Stay up there and think about what you’ve

done!”

The cold air bit at my skin as the ride ascended, approaching three hundred thirty feet. My teeth chattered;

my stomach cramped harder with every second.

When I realized the baby was coming, I fought to free my bound hands. The ropes tore into my skin until my flesh split open, but I managed to loosen them just enough.

As the ride dropped again, I pushed with all the strength I had left.

A faint, kitten-like cry reached my ears.

I barely had time to feel relief before the machine shot upward again.

My vision blurred. I couldn’t even tell whether my baby was a boy or a girl before she fell from me, torn away

by the sudden drop.

I tried to catch her. My hands, raw and bleeding, couldn’t hold on.

Her tiny body plummeted, and I screamed until my throat broke, watching helplessly as she hit the ground and was crushed beyond recognition.

Blood poured from me, flaring crimson in the wind like midsummer snow.

My screams of agony faded into silence as my breath finally stopped.

And in that same moment, what was Alexander doing?

He had gathered the city’s top doctors to make sure Lila wouldn’t be left with a scar from that faint scratch on her arm.

He bought her 9,999 roses, a one-of-a-kind jewel from an international auction, laying them at her feet just to coax a smile from his precious first love.

When someone tried to report my condition, he cut them off impatiently. “Even if she’s dead, she brought it

on herself.”

“Enough. Her due date’s in two days. Bring Grace over to apologize. And for God’s sake, make sure she

cleans herself up first. She probably wet herself that day. Disgusting.”

Alexander said lazily, holding Lila on his lap while reviewing a document.

Lila traced idle circles across his chest with her finger.

“Maybe just let it go… I don’t think Grace meant to hurt me. It’s my fault for coming back. I only wanted to be

near you, not to make you two fight.”

Alexander caught her wandering hand and smiled indulgently.

“Lila, you saved my life. For that alone, I’ll protect you forever. Grace is my wife. She should be kind to you.

But instead, she keeps lashing out and provoking you.”

He sighed, brushing his thumb across her cheek. “If the firefighters hadn’t reached you in time that day, I’d never have forgiven myself.”

At those words, a flicker of emotion passed across Lila’s face, either guilt or fear. She shrank back slightly

and said nothing more.
