The Rejected Principessa Returns novel Chapter 87

Chapter 3

Three days later, I met the man at a quiet café in Georgetown.

Raindrops tapped against the windowpane. I stirred my latte absently until the soft sound of wheels stopped by my table.

I snapped back to attention and looked at the man, only to be stunned.

That day, he had been sitting in a shadowy corner, his features hard to make out. The half of his face not covered by the mask was sharply defined and profoundly handsome, with superb bone structure.

“Miss Caldwell, don’t you recognize me?”

His voice held a hint of laughter, like a mountain spring.

He wore a crisply ironed white shirt today. The silver-gray mask covering half his face gleamed with a cool luster in the daylight. His gaze was sharp, his pupils an unusual amber hue.

While I was still processing this, his eyes locked intently onto mine.

I hurriedly cleared my throat, forcing a calm demeanor.

“What’s your name?”

“Julian Shaw.” He smoothly maneuvered his wheelchair to stop opposite me. His well-defined hands picked

up the water pitcher and poured himself a glass. The simple action carried an undeniable air of natural

composure.

A tangle of wariness and reluctant curiosity tightened in my chest. Fighting it down, I retrieved a bank card from my purse and slid it across the table.

“Come to the Caldwell house to pick me up in half a month. This should be enough to cover any necessary

expenses for the occasion.”

Julian’s eyes swept over the card but he didn’t take it. Instead, he looked directly at me, his gaze probing.

“Are you certain you wish to marry someone like me… a cripple?”

My fingers tightened slightly. I lifted my chin instead.

“What? Afraid my family’s influence will pressure you?”

He let out a soft laugh at that. With his fingertips, he gently pushed the card back toward me, his movement

gentle yet firm.

“What do you mean?” I frowned.

“I don’t take money from a woman.” When he looked up, his gaze was sharp, his tone brooking no argument.

“Wait for me. In half a month, I will come for you, and it will be a proper occasion.”

I was taken aback. Thinking of all the cold shoulders and scheming I’d faced since returning home, I felt

moisture welling up uncontrollably in my eyes.

I took a deep breath, but my voice was unusually clear.

“If possible… please come as soon as you can.”

Noticing my red-rimmed eyes, Julian’s movements paused almost imperceptibly. His Adam’s apple moved.

When he spoke again, his voice held a new, weighty solemnity.

“Alright.”
