She had been held by Manny for several hours now without a single drop of water or a bite of food. Her stomach had reached its limit.
“I think you’ve forgotten exactly what kind of situation you’re in,” Manny sneered.
“I don’t care what the situation is, I need to eat,” Tessa shot back. “I’m pregnant. I can’t handle being this hungry.”
She wasn’t exaggerating; she was genuinely starving.
Manny stared at her, speechless.
“Well? Are you going to feed me or not?” Tessa pressed.
Manny had been eating barbecue earlier. The lingering scent had been torturing her; she felt like she was about to waste away.
Manny watched her with a dangerous glint in his eyes. This woman had just claimed to be terrified a moment ago. Did this look like a woman paralyzed by fear?
Seeing him fuming in silence, Tessa added, “You should think this through. They didn’t agree to your demands so quickly just because of me.”
“Then because of what?”
“Because of the child in my womb, obviously. You should know that if anything happens to this baby, you’re the one who loses your leverage.”
Manny tightened his grip on his jaw.
“My baby is hungry,” Tessa continued, her tone increasingly demanding. “I want pasta, a buffet, and some barbecue. Bring it all out.”
“You have the nerve to make demands!” Manny hissed through gritted teeth.
Did this woman have no sense of self–preservation? A buffet? Barbecue?
“It’s not me making demands, it’s the baby. The baby! Do you understand?” she said, radiating a sense of righteous entitlement.
Manny felt like his head might explode. Had he kidnapped a prisoner or a parasite? He was furious, resentful, and utterly bitter. He had lost everything because of Tessa, and now he was expected to wait on her hand and foot? Where was the logic in that?

Ultimately, Manny ordered his men to bring her food.

Tessa looked at the tray and then at the cage. “This cage is too small. I can’t enjoy my meal in here. If I’m cramped, the baby will be uncomfortable. If the baby is lost, your loss will be massive.”
If they fed her, it wasn’t enough; if they didn’t, it was a problem. She was impossibly high- maintenance.
With a face like thunder, Manny waved a hand. “Let her out!”
“But, sir, she-”
“What? She’s just a woman. Are you worried she’s going to outrun you right under our noses?”
She was a woman, and a pregnant one at that. Manny truly didn’t view her as a threat.
Finally, Tessa stepped out of the cage and sat down properly at the table, digging into the barbecue with practiced ease.
“Did you order the buffet yet? I’m really craving one.”
Ever since Victor found out she was pregnant back in Falvaria, he had strictly forbidden her from eating anything remotely unhealthy. Now that he wasn’t around, she intended to make the most of her “freedom.”
“We’re in the mountains,” Manny snapped. “Where am I supposed to find a buffet? Just eat what’s there.”
“You’re asking a pregnant woman to settle for ‘what’s there‘?”
Manny felt a violent urge to throttle her. “This is an abandoned mountain warehouse. There’s no one living for miles. If you don’t settle, you starve.”
“Oh…” Tessa sighed. Well, if it was physically impossible, she supposed she’d have to make do with the barbecue. But God, it smelled incredible. Her stomach felt like a hollow pit.
After a few bites, she grew thirsty. “I want juice. Ice–cold.”
Manny and his men stared at her. Her list of requirements was never–ending.
“Are you sure a pregnant woman should be eating spicy food and drinking ice–cold juice?” Manny asked, his brow furrowing.
“I’m the pregnant one! Whatever I want to eat or drink has to be in my mouth immediately, or I’ll get upset.”
