He kissed her forehead and tenderly stroked her hair.
“Honey, I want a hug.”
“Alright, come here,” he said softly.
He hadn’t been spending much time with her lately; she must’ve been upset about it.
Meanwhile, in the other room, when Derrick came out of the bathroom, Marie was already fast asleep. He could only sigh helplessly. After the chaos she’d caused earlier, of course she was exhausted.
He carefully lay down beside her, not daring to make a sound.
But just as he settled in, Marie rolled over–and wrapped herself around him.
Derrick’s mind went completely blank; something inside him snapped with a loud twang.
He dragged a hand down his face. Unbelievable–of all people, he was actually falling for this firecracker.
Yet here he was–wanting her, badly.
He turned over, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her.
When he wanted something, he never hesitated.
Half–asleep, Marie felt someone kissing her and groggily opened her eyes. When she saw it was Derrick, irritation flared instantly. “Are you out of your mind?”
The second she said that, Derrick pinned her beneath him. Now that the truth is out in the open, why bother pretending anymore?
He had been wanting her for a while now… but this woman refused to believe that it had been him that night. So he’d had to keep his hands to himself–stealing a kiss was as far as he could go.
Not anymore.
“What are you doing?” Marie asked sharply.
The sudden move startled her awake; she’d been dead tired a moment ago, but now adrenaline surged through her.

“Hold on, no way!”
“Why not?” Derrick shot back. “We’re married; that night was allowed here?”
Is she still thinking about Dany
No way. Dan had nearly been beaten to death by her there was no Dan left to think about
“I’m barely out of the first trimester,” she blurted. “It’s not safe yet.
Derrick froze
every trace of heat gone in an instant. “Damn it.”
She was right. It really wasn’t a good idea.
Frustration burned through him; finally, he bit her hard on the lip before sulking off her.
Marie felt a sharp sting on her mouth and shot upright, furious.
“What the heck is wrong with you? How am I supposed to show my face tomorrow?”
“What person can’t you face?” Derrick asked flatly.
Marie hesitated.
Well… there really wasn’t anyone she couldn’t face. She was married now. This was totally normal, wasn’t it?
Derrick wanted her but couldn’t have her; meanwhile, Marie fell right back asleep. He, on the other hand, was too wound up to sleep at all.
Then his phone rang–Sebastian.
The man on the other end sounded just as fired up.
“You’re unbelievable, man. You really found me one hell of a sister–in–law!”
“How far have you gotten?” Derrick asked.
“Six miles!”
“That’s it?”
“You think you can do better? Come run Six miles up a damn mountain and see how you like it!”
Sebastian was fuming. Not even a proper road–just a rocky trail! If it had been flat ground, he’d have been done by now. But this was torture. His legs were about to give out.
“Come carry me back,” he groaned.
Too cruel. Hours of hiking, and he hadn’t even made it halfway.
Derrick hung up without a word.
