The Returned Heiress Who Never Fit In novel Chapter 940

**TITLE: She Took 940**

**Chapter 940: You’re Sick Again**

The word ‘probably’ hung in the air, a vague cloud of uncertainty that neither of them could grasp. Tessa knew she had to provide a clearer answer, something that would leave no room for doubt. With a determined glint in her eye, she declared, “They are a couple who endured hardship together!”

The weight of her words settled heavily between them, and Dale felt a chill run down his spine. “Endured hardship together” and “no man in Rivermount” echoed in his mind, striking him like a bolt of lightning. His expression froze, caught in a moment of disbelief. No man in Rivermount?

But while he had been preoccupied with his search for her, she had managed to find someone else. The implications of that realization gnawed at him. Did that mean he had unwittingly pushed Diana into the arms of Norris?

His heart raced, a surge of panic coursing through him. “They are not husband and wife!” he exclaimed, his voice rising with a sudden intensity. The sorrow that had tinged his tone just moments before was now replaced with a fierce edge, his teeth gritted in frustration.

Tessa, in the midst of her signing, hesitated. She could sense the shift in the atmosphere, the tension thickening like fog. Rising from her seat, she strode purposefully toward the door where Lewis stood like a silent sentinel. In that instant, everything clicked into place for her.

The moment Dale lost his temper, she would swing open the door and unleash Lewis to protect herself.

“What are you doing?” Dale barked, his eyes narrowing as he realized her intentions. The thought of her calling for help again ignited a fire of anger within him. Why was she acting like this? He hadn’t even laid a finger on her!

Tessa’s hand was already poised on the doorknob, her determination evident. She turned her head slightly, casting a glance back at him. “You’re sick again,” she stated, her voice steady but laced with concern.

Dale opened his mouth to respond but found himself momentarily speechless.

“The important thing right now is to go to the hospital!” Tessa urged, her voice rising with urgency.

“I’m not sick!” Dale shot back, his denial louder than his conviction.

Tessa pressed on, her eyes narrowing in scrutiny. “Patients with depression or mental illness usually don’t admit they’re sick,” she explained, her tone softening slightly.

“What do you mean…?” Dale faltered, taken aback by her insight.

“I suspect you’re depressed!” Tessa said firmly, her gaze unwavering.

Dale felt a surge of indignation. “You… you come back. I have something to say to you. I’m not…” His voice faltered as anxiety crept into his tone, desperation leaking through.

Dale’s mind raced with desperation. He longed for a child of his own, a woman who would love him unconditionally. That desire fueled his refusal to accept the truth of what Tessa and her mother had shared.

“You aren’t either!” Tessa countered, her voice rising in defiance.

“YOU…” Dale began, but the words caught in his throat.

“Alright, I know you keep approaching me. Ultimately, it’s just because of my mom,” she said, her voice steady. “But Dale, have you forgotten? Back then, she was just a pawn you used to protect Artemis. If it had just been Artemis, that would be one thing, but you were hunting her down too!”

The truth hung heavy between them, a reminder of the past that couldn’t be erased. “And after all that, you still expect her to have loved you all along?” Tessa continued, incredulous. “If that were the case, how much of a fool would my mom have to be to have loved you all this time?”

The silence that followed was deafening, each of them grappling with the weight of their shared history.
