**TITLE: She Took 956**
Eddie scratched his head, a bemused expression crossing his face. “Hey, I just asked her to bring food. What’s the big deal?”
Evie’s eyes widened in disbelief, her voice rising in indignation. “What’s the big deal? Are you really that oblivious? How many more years do you plan to remain single, huh?”
Eddie fell silent, the weight of her words settling heavily on his shoulders.
Evie continued, her frustration spilling over like an overflowing cup. “It’s bad enough that you’re single, but now you’re dragging me down with you! Why on earth did I end up with a brother like you? I must have skipped the bribe during reincarnation to get stuck with a blockhead like you!”
Eddie, feeling the sting of her words, replied defensively, “Hey, what does your being single have to do with me? I’m just…”
Evie cut him off, her voice sharp as a knife. “What does it have to do with you? You tell me!”
Her anger bubbled over, and without a second thought, she began to punch and kick him playfully, her frustration manifesting in a whirlwind of sibling rivalry.
Eddie stood there, utterly taken aback by her sudden outburst. He had never seen her so furious.
As Evie landed a few playful hits, she yelled, “Don’t you know you’re supposed to be sweet to her before you get married? No wonder even Abraham can’t stand that mouth of yours! Is that even a mouth? No emotional intelligence, no common sense! Do you really want to be a bachelor forever?”
“If you want to be single, fine, but don’t drag me down with you!” she exclaimed, the realization that her own single status was linked to Eddie’s lack of commitment fueling her anger.
The thought that she remained single all these years because her brother hadn’t found love yet made her hit him again, more emphatically this time.
Eddie, feeling utterly wronged, protested, “I was just busy! I asked Rianne to help bring me food. What’s wrong with that?”
He genuinely hadn’t anticipated such a monumental reaction from Evie just for requesting a meal.
After all, wasn’t it customary for colleagues in a hospital to help each other out with food?
Why was his sister making such a fuss over something so trivial?
“Then why don’t you just bring her food yourself?” Evie shot back, her eyes narrowing.
Eddie retorted, “If she’s busy, of course I’d bring her food!”
Evie rolled her eyes, exasperated. “Do you even have a brain?”
Eddie, feeling cornered, replied, “Hey, I just…”
“Is this the same as your old colleagues? She’s the person you like! You’re pursuing her!” Evie pressed, her voice rising with each word.
Eddie nodded, a hint of uncertainty creeping into his expression. “Yeah, I am.”
He was indeed pursuing Rianne, wasn’t he?
“Then you have to treat her right! Did you even watch those videos I sent you?” Evie demanded, her frustration palpable.
Eddie nodded again, a bit sheepishly. “I watched them. But they didn’t say I couldn’t ask her to bring me food.”
Evie sighed deeply, shaking her head in disbelief. “I must have really messed up in a past life to end up with a brother like you. I used to think Victor was the clueless one, forever single.”
“I never expected you to be even more dense. I bet Victor’s about to be a dad, and you haven’t even made a splash in the dating pool!”
She paused, her voice softening. “And do you even like Rianne?”
Eddie hesitated, the question hanging in the air like a heavy cloud. “I…”
Evie threw her hands up in frustration. “Ugh, forget it! What sins did I commit in a past life to deserve a brother like you?”
Eddie’s hesitation only fueled Evie’s doubts about the vivid tales Marie and Stella had spun about his supposed feelings for Rianne.
Did this oaf truly seem like he was head over heels for Rianne? If he was, wouldn’t he be acting differently?
Her anger simmered just below the surface, and she stormed off, leaving Eddie in a state of bewilderment.
