I stayed completely still when the intelligence wolf finished speaking. The room felt quieter than it should have, like even the air had changed after what he said.
A wolf from my former pack had stepped forward publicly and confirmed Bethany bribed officials years ago. That meant my humiliation was no longer a rumor people could ignore or twist.
Conrad stood close to me without interrupting. His presence stayed steady, like he was waiting for me to decide how to respond instead of reacting for me.
I finally spoke in a low voice. “So it’s starting to collapse.”
The intelligence wolf nodded. “Others are preparing to speak now.”
I let that sit in my mind for a moment. I did not feel panic or surprise anymore. I felt something calmer, like distance from a wound that had finally stopped bleeding.
For years, I thought what happened to me in my former pack was just personal failure. I thought I missed something everyone else understood.
Now I saw it differently. It was not confusion. It was planning.
Bethany did not just compete with me. She worked slowly to isolate me, weaken my standing, and prepare the pack to accept my downfall before I even understood I was being targeted.
Holmes did not stop it either. He watched it happen and still chose his path.
Conrad’s hand moved gent
to my back. He did not speak right away.
“They are finally exposing it,” he said quietly.
I turned my head slightly toward him. “I spent years thinking I was the problem.”
“You weren’t,” he said firmly.
His certainty did not feel like comfort alone. It felt like correction of something I had been forced to believe for too long.
I left the intelligence office later that day without hiding. Wolves along the corridor watched as I passed, and I noticed something different in their expressions.
Some looked uncertain. Some looked like they were rethinking what they believed.
But a few younger female wolves stepped forward instead of stepping back.
One of them spoke carefully. “We heard what your former pack did.”
Another added quickly. “You didn’t deserve any of it.”
I stopped walking.
They were not afraid of me. They were not judging me either. They were simply acknowledging me.
That feeling was unfamiliar in a way that made my chest tighten slightly.

Thank you,” said
It was simple, but it was honest.
They nodded and stepped back, but they did not avoid looking at me as I continued walking.
By the time I returned to Conrad’s quarters, the pressure inside me had shifted again. Not gone, but lighter.
Conrad was already there. He stood up immediately when I entered,
“You handled it better than expected,” he said.
“I didn’t do anything special,” I replied.
“You didn’t run,” he corrected.
I walked closer to him without thinking too hard about it. The habit of being near him felt natural now.
“I think I finally stopped feeling trapped by it,” I admitted quietly.
Conrad stepped closer and kissed my forehead without hesitation.
“I already knew you were stronger than them,” he said.
I exhaled slowly. “I didn’t believe that for a long time.”
“That part is finished now,” he replied.

We stayed in the room together for a while without moving. The silence between us did not feel heavy anymore.
Later, we sat on the bed while talking about nothing urgent. It was the kind of conversation that did not need direction.
I told him how strange it felt to hear people finally say the truth out loud. How it did not erase what happened, but it changed how it sat inside
Conrad listened without interrupting even once.
When I finished, he moved closer and pulled me gently against him.
“You don’t have to carry that version of your past anymore,” he said quietly.
I nodded against his shoulder. “I know.”
We stayed like that longer than I expected. There was no tension in the moment, just quiet understanding.
1 fell asleep there without realizing it.
When I woke the next morning, the twins were already inside the room.
Kyra was sitting on the floor beside the bed, talking softly toward my stomach like she was speaking to someone already listening.
“Our baby is going to like this blanket,” she said seriously.
Zane stood near the window with his arms crossed. “It doesn’t even understand blankets yet.”

will. Kyra replied immediately.
I opened my eyes slowly and watched them argue without real anger.
Zane glanced toward me after a moment. “Do you think she will stay with us after everything is over?”
The question felt simple, but it landed deeper than expected.
Conrad was already awake beside me. He looked at Zane and answered first.
“Yes,” he said. “She is here because she chose to be.”
