Chapter 165 She Chose Herself
Chapter 165: She Chose Herself
Amorah POV
I did not get far before Conrad caught up with me.
His footsteps echoed through the hallway behind me, but I refused to stop until I reached one of the quieter sitting rooms near the western side of the estate.
My chest felt tight, and the baby shifted uncomfortably beneath my hand as I lowered myself carefully onto a sofa.
A moment later, Conrad entered the room.
For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
He remained standing near the doorway while I stared toward the fireplace.
The silence between us felt really tense, but it was not the same kind of silence I once shared with Holmes.
With Holmes, silence usually meant fear.
With Conrad, it meant waiting.
“Amorah,” he said quietly.
I finally looked at him.
“Explain.”
Conrad crossed the room slowly and sat opposite me.
He did not try to touch me immediately, and I appreciated that more than he probably realized.
Then he told me everything.
He started with Lyra’s arrival and explained every uncomfortable conversation that followed.
He admitted he had noticed her behavior days ago and had hoped it would fade once she realized he was not interested.
As he continued talking, pieces of the situation started fitting together.
The private conversations. The awkward moments.
The message she had sent him. The confrontation that morning.
When he finally finished, I sat quietly for several seconds.
The anger inside me was real.
But it was not directed where he probably expected.
“You should have told me.”
Conrad lowered his head slightly.
“I know.”
“You should have told me the first time she crossed a line.”
“I know.”
My fingers tightened around the blanket draped across my lap.
“You don’t get to decide what I can handle.”
His expression filled with regret immediately.
“I wasn’t trying to control you.”
“But you were.”
The words came out sharper than I intend

Conrad accepted them without argument.
“I thought I was protecting you.”
I released a slow breath.
Months ago, this situation would have destroyed me.
“You made a mistake,” I said finally.
Conrad nodded.
“I did.”
“But you didn’t betray me.”
His shoulders relaxed slightly.
“No.”
I studied his face carefully.
There was frustration there. Regret and concern.
But there was no guilt. Not the kind that came from dishonesty.
That mattered too.
Before either of us could continue, another kick hit my side.
I winced. Conrad was beside me instantly.
His hand settled carefully against my stomach.
“Are you alright?”
I rolled my eyes. “The baby is fine.”
“You winced.”
“The baby has apparently decided my ribs are enemies.”
A small smile appeared on his face.
The tension between us eased slightly.
Then I remembered why we were having this conversation at all.
“Get Lyra.”
His expression hardened immediately.
“Amorah-”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“We’re finishing this today.”
An hour later, all three of us sat in the same room.
Conrad remained beside me. Lyra sat across from us.
The atmosphere felt tense enough to snap.
At first, Lyra looked genuinely nervous.
For a brief moment, I almost felt sorry for her.
Then she started talking.
“I never wanted to hurt anyone.”
“You deliberately created that situation.” Conrad fired back.
Lyra looked away.
“It wasn’t supposed to happen like that.”

A small part of me had hoped she would simply admit what she had done.
Instead, she continued digging herself deeper.
“I just think people deserve honesty.”
I stared at her.
“Then be honest.”
For several seconds, she remained silent.
Then her frustration finally surfaced.
“I knew Conrad first.”
The room became quiet.
Honestly, after all the drama, I expected something more impressive.
“You knew him first, I repeated.
“Yes,”
“And?”
Confusion crossed her face. Clearly, that wasn’t the reaction she expected.
She leaned forward.
“Our families practically raised us together.”
I nodded.
“Okay.”
“They thought we’d become mates.”
“Okay.”
Now she looked annoyed. The more she spoke, the more obvious the real issue became.
This had never been about love. It was about entitlement.
About believing she deserved something because she wanted it first.
“You don’t understand,” she said.
“No,” I replied calmly.
“I understand perfectly.”
Her expression hardened.
“If circumstances had been different, I’d be standing where you are.”
For the first time, I laughed. Not because anything was funny.
Because the argument itself was ridiculous.
“But they weren’t.” Eventually, I continued. “Life isn’t built on what could have happened.”
My voice remained steady. “It’s built on what did happen.”
Conrad remained completely silent beside me.
“You keep talking about history,” I said.
“But history doesn’t create relationships.”
“Conrad chooses me.” I continued.
nced toward him briefly. Then I looked back at her. “And I choose him. Every single day.”
and minutes later, Lyra stood up.
ulders seemed smaller than before. “I should leave.”
afternoon, arrangements had been made.

Kyra looked devastated when she learned Lyra was leaving.
She spent nearly twenty minutes trying to convince her to stay.
Zane handled it differently.
He acted indifferent.
Which was exactly how everyone knew he was disappointed.
When Lyra’s vehicle finally disappeared beyond the estate gates, the house felt strangely quiet.
The evening passed slowly after that.
I spent most of it resting while Conrad hovered nearby like an overprotective wolf.
The farther my pregnancy progressed, the worse he became.
At one point, I reached for a glass of water.
Conrad handed it to me before I touched it.
I stared at him.
