HOLMES
For a moment, no one spoke. The elders turned toward the entrance. Several Alphas straightened their posture Eve guards near the doors shifted their stance with sudden attention.
I felt the change in the air immediately. Shadow Dominion was not a small territory. Its Alpha rarely attended council gatherings personally. When he did, it usually meant something important was about to happen.
But my attention moved quickly back to the man standing beside Amorah. He was been about to introduce himself.
Now he had stopped.
That alone made my instincts sharpen.
Because the man beside her did not react the way an ordinary Alpha would react to such an announcement.
Amorah stood beside him without speaking. Her shoulders were straight, and her chin was slightly raised as she faced the council. I had seen that posture before. She used it whenever she refused to show weakness in front of others.
The elder who had asked for the stranger’s name looked briefly toward the man beside Amorah.

“Your name,” the elder repeated.
The stranger inclined his head slightly.
“I was about to provide it.”
Before he could continue, the Alpha of Shadow Dominion continued in.
Ronan.
I had seen him before during previous council sessions, but his presence meant something. He moved with the calm authority of a wolf who did not need to prove anything to anyone.
His gaze passed across the hall slowly. He acknowledged several elders with a short nod.
Then his attention shifted directly toward Amorah and the room became even quieter.
Ronan’s eyes moved from Amorah to the man standing beside her. For a brief moment, the two of them looked at each
other.
Something passed between them that I could not fully understand.
Then Ronan spoke.
“Continue,” he said calmly..
His voice carried easily through the hall.
The elder cleared his throat and turned back toward the stranger beside Amorah.
“You were about to introduce yourself.”

“But earlier today” she continued. “I learned that several witnesses who were present during my father’s final hunt were never questioned”
The elder’s expression changed slightly.

Several Alphas exchanged looks.
My irritation turned into something sharper. Bethany had been careless earlier. I had warned her not to say too much.
Now the entire council was watching her reaction.
Bethany forced a small smile.
“You misunderstood my words.”
Before she could say anything else, Kael Varros spoke again.
“If witnesses were ignored during the original investigation,” he said calmly, “then the council should question them now.”
