Zane swallowed the smug smile threatening to break across his face. "Mr. Quigley is gay, and his wife had no idea. She just thought he was sleeping around with other women."
"But wait, I thought his son was in his twenties," Elara said, her eyes wide with shock. "Did they use IVF?"
Zane was momentarily derailed by her absolute lack of understanding.
"If they did, then his wife really suffered. IVF requires hundreds of hormone injections."
Hearing her say that, Zane felt a sudden wave of relief. He was incredibly thankful she had never gotten pregnant with Julian's child and hadn't endured that kind of physical toll.
If she had a child, she probably wouldn't be fighting so hard for a divorce right now.
Zane cleared his throat. "Sexual orientation doesn't physically impair biological functions. Mr. Quigley knew he needed an heir, and he forced himself to perform. Lack of desire and lack of ability are two different things. Otherwise, his wife would have found out years ago."
Seeing her deeply uncomfortable expression, Zane gestured for her to lean in again. Elara refused.
"The next part is the real secret," he coaxed.
Elara looked hesitant. "Zane, this has nothing to do with the project. Maybe we should just drop it."
"Don't you want to know the real reason everything fell apart?"
"Isn't it just a classic case of emotional manipulation, tricking someone into having a kid, and leaving her in a sexless marriage?" Elara reasoned. "Even straight marriages end up sexless half the time."
Zane stared at her for a long moment, completely stunned. Was Julian Sterling really that pathetic in bed?
"Of course not. That's not why his wife broke down. Her son is a grown man; she could have lived with a sexless marriage," Zane chuckled. "Come closer. I'll tell you."
"You are such a gossip," Elara muttered, reluctantly leaning in.
Zane fought back a laugh, his voice dropping to a husky whisper right against her ear. "Mr. Quigley is a bottom. As in, he's the one taking it."
His lips were dangerously close, his hot breath grazing her skin. The sheer heat of it sent a jolt straight through Elara, and she flinched, instinctively trying to pull away.
