Tobias Wainwright arrived just as Zane Whitaker hung up the phone.

District police, emergency management, and local government officials were already on the scene. Tobias greeted them briefly before tracking down Zane.

Seeing Zane's clothes stained with blood, Tobias hurried over, alarmed. "Where did the blood come from? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine," Zane explained. "It's someone else's blood. A female guest had her artery severed."

"It's been one disaster after another lately. You're better off staying at home," Tobias said.

"Home isn't exactly convenient," Zane replied. "There are security cameras everywhere. That would just leave a trail of evidence."

Tobias fell silent for a moment.

"Those two ladies really know what they're doing," Tobias finally remarked.

"Know what they're doing?" Zane sighed. "The fruit platter on their table probably wasn't even half-finished before the cops showed up."

"How are things upstairs? Are they panicking?"

"Panicking?" Zane let out a humorless laugh. "They're probably too thrilled to know what to do with themselves."

"Huh?" Tobias looked bewildered.

"My mother and Aunt Beatrice are hiding in the inner room," Zane said. "Even if the attacker busts in, they have a whole lineup of male escorts acting as human shields out front. Of course they aren't scared."

As they were talking, the highest-ranking police official and the Chief of Staff walked into the lobby.

Zane and Tobias didn't approach them immediately. The higher-ups needed to hear the briefing and issue orders first.

How many attackers? Where were they? What were the weapons? Was the assault still ongoing?

Casualties? Status of the injured? Could the security cameras pinpoint the suspect?

The officers on the scene reported the details one by one.

There was one attacker, a hotel employee, armed with a fruit knife from the kitchen. Two people had been randomly slashed, but the hospital confirmed neither had life-threatening injuries.

Currently, the suspect couldn't be located. He might be hiding among the staff in his uniform, or perhaps posing as a guest.
