Chapter 103

Tara’s face instantly turns ashen, and her phone nearly slips from her grasp. “Keira, don’t panic. I’m on my way.”

Hanging up, she rattles off the address.

Without a second thought, Danny fires up the engine. The car shoots into the night like a bullet, tearing toward the Rhodes family estate.

He notices how terribly pale Tara looks. She is usually so composed, rarely showing any emotion unless it involves the people she loves.

“Don’t worry,” Danny soothes, his voice a steady anchor. “I’m right here with you.”

Tara nods, her heart a tangled knot of anxiety. Aunt Kellen is practically her only real family left. She refuses to let anything happen to her.

As the car speeds through the dark streets, Tara grips her phone so tightly her knuckles turn

white.

“Go faster,” she says, her voice trembling slightly.

Danny floors the gas pedal, the speedometer needle pushing into the red. “Don’t be afraid. We’re almost there.”

Fifteen minutes later, the car screeches to a halt outside the Rhodes estate. Tara doesn’t even wait for the vehicle to fully stop before she throws the door open and sprints inside, with Danny close on her heels.

The front doors are wide open. In the living room, Keira is kneeling on the floor, completely at a loss. Kellen lies unconscious on the hardwood, her face contorted in pain.

“Aunt Kellen!” Tara drops to her knees beside her, her fingers instantly finding the pulse at

Kellen’s wrist.

Her pulse is chaotic, her breathing erratic from sheer shock.

Tara snatches her acupuncture roll from her bag and immediately embeds several silver needles into Kellen’s pressure points. Her movements are practiced and precise, the metal catching the harsh overhead light.

Standing nearby, Danny watches Tara’s focused profile with deep intensity. She never fails to amaze him.

“Tara, my mom…” Keira chokes out, her eyes red and swollen.

“Shh.” Tara doesn’t look up, her entire focus narrowed on manipulating the needles. “Aunt Kellen suffered a massive shock that disrupted her blood flow. I’m stabilizing her heart rate first.”

As she places the final needle, Kellen’s breathing finally begins to even out.

Tara lets out a ragged breath and turns her head. “Keira, what exactly happened?”

Keira wipes at her tears. “Mom answered a call earlier. I think… I think it was my dad. She just suddenly…”

A dangerous glint flashes in Tara’s eyes. “Douglas? What did he say?”

Tara has never had a shred of respect for her uncle. Douglas always strikes her as a hypocritical opportunist who only married Aunt Kellen for the Dennis dynasty’s wealth and connections. Unfortunately, Kellen was hopelessly in love and refused to marry anyone else.
