Chapter 108
Chapter 108
Despite the inevitable backlash, Kellen is entirely prepared to stand her ground.
Tara nods. “Don’t worry, Aunt Kellen. I know how to handle myself.”
Two days later, Eleanor’s luxury sedan pulls up to the Dennis Family estate.
With her striking silver hair and piercing, predatory gaze, Eleanor still commands/absolute authority. Supported by her cane and Marian’s steady arm, she steps into the grand foyer where the entire family is already lined up to greet her.
“Mom, you’re finally home!” Deanna rushes forward, beaming brightly.
Jade immediately loops her arm through Eleanor’s, her voice sugary sweet. “Grandma, you re back! I missed you so much!”
Dressed in a modest, elegant dress, Jade looks every bit the innocent, perfect granddaughter.
Eleanor pats her hand, her stern face softening into a fond smile. “Such a good girl. I missed you too.”
Charles and his sons all step forward to offer their respects, and Eleanor acknowledges them one by one.
“Mom, you must be exhausted from the drive. Let’s get you inside to rest. Dinner is already prepared.”
Eleanor nods and begins walking with the group, but suddenly stops, her brow furrowing. “Where is Tara? Why isn’t she here to greet me?”
The air in the foyer instantly freezes.
Charles forces a stiff smile. “Tara has been… very busy lately. She might be running a bit
late.”
Eleanor lets out a cold hum. “Busy? It seems her wings have grown too strong. She doesn’t even have the basic decency to show up on time!”
Jade’s eyes dart around as she quickly plays the peacemaker. “Grandma, please don’t be angry. My sister… she probably just got delayed in traffic.”
Seizing the opportunity, Alec jumps in to stir the pot. “Grandma, you have no idea. Tara has gone completely rogue. She doesn’t even listen to Mom and Dad anymore. A while ago, she actually-”
“Alec!” his father snaps sharply. “That’s enough!”
Eleanor narrows her eyes, her tone dropping to a dangerous register. “Oh? It seems quite a lot

has happened while I was away.”
Just as the tension reaches a breaking point, the massive front doors swing open.
Tara and Kellen step into the hall side by side.
“My apologies for being late, Grandma,” Tara says, her voice cool and composed as her gaze sweeps over the suddenly panicked faces of her relatives.
Eleanor strikes her cane hard against the marble floor. “So you still remember where you live?”
Her sharp eyes immediately snap to Kellen. “Kellen, what’s wrong with you? You look awful.”
Kellen offers a fragile smile. “I’m fine, Mom. Tara was just checking on me, which is why we’re late. Please don’t blame her.”
“My aunt recently underwent surgery, so she is still quite weak,” Tara chimes in smoothly.
Eleanor frowns deeply. “Surgery? What surgery? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
Deanna rushes forward to do damage control. “Mom, it was just a minor procedure. Kellen didn’t want you to worry…”
