Chapter 109

“Mom, let’s eat first. We can discuss all of this later, Charles urges nervously

The family relocates to the grand dining room. Throughout the meal, Jade and Alec strategically drop little comments, tag-teaming to ensure Eleanor hears all about Tara’s recent ‘exploits. By the time dessert is served, Eleanor knows everything-from Tara canceling her own engagement and cutting ties with the family, to aggressively orchestrating her aunt’s divorce.

Once the meal is finished, Eleanor looks up, her expression frigid. “Tara, come with me to the study.”

Tara remains entirely unfazed, offering a slight nod. “Of course, Grandma.”

Upstairs in the study, the faint scent of sandalwood hangs heavily in the air.

Eleanor settles into a carved mahogany chair. “Speak. Did you single-handedly make your aunt get a divorce?”

Tara meets her grandmother’s piercing gaze without blinking. “I helped, yes. But it was entirely her decision.”

“Nonsense!” Eleanor slams her hand on the desk. “You are a junior in this family. What right do you have to interfere in your aunt’s marriages? The Rhodes Family might not be as powerful as they used to be, but they are still a prestigious household!”

Tara lets out a cold, cynical laugh. “Prestigious? Grandma, do you have any idea what Douglas was doing? He brought his mistress and his illegitimate son to ambush her, and he tried to strip her of every last penny she owned.”

Eleanor’s face changes instantly. “Is that true?”

Without missing a beat, Tara pulls a thick stack of photos and financial records from her bag. “Here’s the proof. For years, Douglas has been embezzling Aunt Kellen’s money to fund his double life, and he was secretly transferring her assets while she was hospitalized fighting for her life.”

Tara anticipated this exact interrogation, which is why she brought the files with her.

As Eleanor flips through the damning evidence, her hands begin to tremble. “That absolute

monster…”

“Aunt Kellen sacrificed her entire youth and health for the Rhodes Family, and this is how he repays her,” Tara says, her voice unwavering. “As her niece, was I supposed to just sit back and watch him destroy her?”

A long, heavy silence fills the room. Finally, Eleanor lets out a ragged sigh. “Fine… Kellen is too soft-hearted. She needed someone to fight for her.”

Tara is genuinely surprised by how quickly her grandmother’s attitude shifts Perhaps it is simply a mother’s instinct to protect her own child.

But Eleanor’s tone quickly hardens again. “However, your father tells me you have zero respect for your elders, and that you completely severed ties with this family Explain yourself.”

The disapproval in her voice is thick and unmistakable.

A mocking smirk touches the corner of Tara’s mouth. “Grandma, do you honestly believe a normal father would kick his own flesh-and-blood daughter out onto the street just to protect his adopted one?”

Eleanor furrows her brow. “Jade is a sweet, well-behaved girl-”

“Sweet and well-behaved?” Tara cuts her off sharply. “Do you have any idea how many times she’s tried to frame me? Did you know she drugged me and tried to have me assaulted by random men just so she could steal my fiancé?”

Eleanor’s eyes widen in sheer horror. “That… that’s impossible!”

Tara calmly pulls out her phone and hits play on an audio file. It is the exact same recording she played for the rest of the family-and now, it is Eleanor’s turn to hear it. Let her hear exactly what kind of ‘sweet, kind-hearted’ girl Jade truly is.
