Now that she has personally tested the soil and plant samples she smuggled out, she has a complete picture. Joey's intelligence simply locks it all into place.
The question is, why aren't the saboteurs worried? Are they underestimating her abilities, or are they so arrogant they don't care if they are discovered? Either way, it doesn't matter. As long as they have an endgame, they will expose themselves eventually.
"Did you find any concrete intel on Jade's mother?" Tara asks. She is far more interested in Jade’s mother than the ruined fields. Any woman who can infiltrate the Dennis Group's core operations, orchestrate a massive agricultural sabotage, and use it to slide her daughter into a position of corporate power is playing a masterful game. It is a brilliant inside-out strategy. But who is the mole inside the company? To pull off sabotage at this level, the mole must hold a high-ranking position within the core department. That means they have been embedded in the Dennis Group for a long time. Jade’s mother is definitely a formidable opponent.
"All we know right now is that she goes by Jovani, and she was Charles's first love," Joey says. "They didn't end up together back then because Eleanor intervened. Apparently, they crossed paths again by pure coincidence over a decade ago and rekindled their romance."
Rekindled their romance over a decade ago? Tara lets out a dark laugh. That means Deanna has been getting cheated on for over ten years. And to think, Deanna has worshipped her husband as the ultimate family man all this time. The entire social elite views them as a model couple—a rare beacon of true love in high society. If Charles hadn't maintained such a flawless public image, and if Jade didn't look anything like him, people would have suspected the adopted daughter's true lineage ages ago. After all, what legitimate wife dotes on her husband's illegitimate child so fiercely? Not even Deanna suspected a thing.
However, Tara personally ran the DNA test. Jade is absolutely Charles's biological daughter. Her results are infallible. The only alternative is that the Alchemist Foundation developed some twisted biological agent capable of falsifying genetic markers.
"I still haven't confirmed exactly who Jovani is working for, but I did find a new lead," Joey says, pausing for dramatic effect. "Jovani is in contact with Garrison. The serum she gave Jade was sourced directly by him. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out his supply chain yet."
Joey sounds frustrated. Every time he hits a critical juncture, the trail goes dead. It feels intentional—as if someone is breadcrumbing him along, only to sever the connection the moment he thinks he has a breakthrough. It is a sick, infuriating game of cat and mouse.
"I didn't expect Garrison to be involved," Tara says, her brow furrowing. Why on earth is Garrison secretly coordinating with Jade's mother? The two of them shouldn't even exist in the same social orbit.
