Chapter 46
Hearing that, Luke nearly chokes on his own spit, his handsome face flushing beet red. “Dr. Tara, that is… an absolute lie!” He jumps up, whining. “These dark circles are from working overtime!”
“Luke, tell the truth. I heard that new model you’re dating is a few years younger than you,” Danny chimes in, tossing him right under the bus.
“Danny, you…”
Tara pulls a small porcelain bottle from her bag and taps out a single pill. “Take one a day with warm water.”
Luke accepts the pill, immediately catching its crisp, herbal scent. He looks up in surprise. “What is this?”
‘Vitality Capsules,” Tara says simply. “It’s a pure herbal remedy. Non-addictive.” She adds pointedly, “However, you must absolutely abstain from sex while taking it.”
Luke looks like he wants the floor to swallow him whole. “Right. Thanks.”
‘Alright, you can get the hell out now,” Danny orders. He finally has a chance to eat with Tara, and he refuses to share the time.
Luke groans. “Using me and tossing me aside? Bros before hoes, man!” Whining the entire time, Luke is shoved out the door, though he still manages to wink at Tara before it closes. “Dr. Tara, let me buy you coffee sometime to thank you for the meds!”
“No need. Just take care of your health, and you’ll look fine,” Tara replies.
Once the door clicks shut, a rare flash of embarrassment crosses Danny’s face. “He never shuts up. Just ignore him.”
Tara laughs softly. “You two are close.”
Soon, the servers begin bringing out the food. The dishes are all the club’s signature specialties, filling the massive table with exquisite
culinary art. The servers retreat quietly, pulling the carved wooden doors shut behind them.
“Try it. See what you think. If you don’t like it, I’ll have the kitchen remake everything,” Danny says.
Tara blinks in surprise. “You own this club?”
“Yeah. I couldn’t find a decent place to eat, so I just opened this one,” Danny replies casually. Since Luke loves food and entertainment, he invested as well and handles the day-to-day operations. That is the only reason Luke knew Danny was dining here today.
Tara stays quiet, happily digging into the amazing food.
Danny serves her a bowl of rich truffle chicken soup, his movements smooth and practiced. “Eat up. By the way, did the Dennis family give you trouble?”
“What do you think?” Tara teases, dragging out the suspense.
‘Looks like they haven’t learned their lesson,” Danny remarks.
‘It’s fine. I have a plan,” Tara says confidently.
Danny smiles. She is exactly the kind of woman he admires. He spends the rest of the meal piling food onto her plate. By the end of it, Tara feels like she is being fattened up for winter. They chat and laugh, and the time flies by.
After lunch, they walk out of the private room. Danny gets caught up chatting with an acquaintance in the lobby, so Tara decides to take a walk through the gardens to walk off the heavy meal. As she rounds a corner in the corridor, she bumps into someone.
“Sorry,” Tara says politely.
The man suddenly steps forward, his voice filled with frantic excitement. “Tara! You’re here! Thank god, I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Chapter
Recognizing the voice, Tara’s brow furrows instantly, a bad feeling washing over her. She looks up and finds Evan blocking her path.
She takes a step back, her gaze turning frigid. “Evan.”
