Unable to stomach the scene a second longer, Bonnie lets out a bitter scoff and storms away.
Watching her leave, Julianna feels the overwhelming urge to follow. A suffocating weight presses against her chest, and the humiliation makes her nauseous. But logic keeps her feet planted. Unlike Bonnie, she isn't reckless or impulsive. Fleeing the gala now would only broadcast her guilt and jealousy to the entire room. Her fierce pride absolutely refuses to give anyone the satisfaction of gossiping about her.
So, Julianna forces herself to stand there, swallowing the bitter pill as her uncle, her grandmother, and her little cousin happily chat with Tara. She can't get a single word in edgewise. As for the rest of the gursts who had just been mocking Tara? The truth has thoroughly silenced them, and they quietly slip away in shame.
As the conversations naturally wind down, the gala nears its end, with guests gradually filtering out. Having stayed much longer than she originally planned, Tara is more than ready to leave. She bids a warm farewell to Victor and heads for the exit.
"I'll give you a ride," Danny offers smoothly, falling into step beside her.
"Shouldn't you stay and keep your mother company?"
"She’s okay without me."
"Well, I don't need a ride either. I can just grab a cab. We aren't exactly heading in the same direction," Tara points out. Her place and his estate are on completely opposite sides of the city.
