Chapter 59

When Tara arrives at Mercy Medical Center, the entire Dennis family is already hovering outside the VIP suite.

Alec spots her first and instantly sneers. “Wow, the busy superstar finally found time for us?”

Tara ignores him completely and strides straight toward the door.

Charles steps into her path, blocking the entrance. “Your aunt just fell asleep. Don’t disturb her.”

Jake steps forward, holding out a transfer contract. “Let’s skip the small talk. Sign these shares over to us, and we’ll use our connections to get Professor Maxwell to perform Aunt Kellen’s surgery.”

Tara glances at the contract, a mocking smile curving her lips. “What is this? Blackmail?”

She knew the Dennis family wouldn’t suddenly grow a conscience. This was their disgusting game all along. But they are dreaming if they think it will work.

Tara takes the contract from Jake’s hands and, maintaining eye contact, slowly and deliberately rips it into pieces.

Jake’s face turns livid. “Tara, do you have any idea how dangerous her condition is?! Without Professor Maxwell, she will probably-”

“Shut up!” Tara snaps, her voice cracking like a whip. “Save your fake sympathy. I’m handling my aunt’s treatment. I don’t need your help.”

“Tara, stop acting like a child. This is a matter of life and death!” Jade cries out, playing the concerned peacemaker. “There are less than three surgeons in the world who can do this operation. We already consulted the experts. The only ones who can pull this off are Professor Maxwell and Dr. T. But Dr. T is incredibly secretive and hasn’t operated in years!”

Jade had done her homework. After her reputation was destroyed by the reality show scandal, she had to take a hiatus. She blames Tara for everything, so she is determined to rip those shares away from her. Once she does, the family will inevitably reward her with the majority of them.

Tara’s gaze slices through Jade like a knife. She lets out a cold laugh. “I see you’ve done your research.”

They are actually using a dying woman to extort her. Do they have no shame?

Tara steps forward to push the door open.

Charles physically shoves her back. “Tara! Your aunt is dying! This isn’t the time for your temper tantrums! Who do you think you are? You really think you can track down Dr. T?”

Chapter 59

Tara pauses, a dark, dangerous gleam flashing in her eyes. “That’s none of your business.”

She shoves Charles out of the way and walks straight into the room.

Lying on the hospital bed is a gentle, middle-aged woman in a pale gown. Her hair is thinning, and her face is gaunt, completely ravaged by the illness. It is Aunt Kellen.

Hearing the door, Kellen slowly opens her eyes. “Tara…”

Seeing her aunt’s pale, skeletal face, a painful lump forms in Tara’s throat. She rushes to the bedside and gently takes Kellen’s hand. “I’m here, Aunt Kellen. You’re going to be okay.”

“Sweetheart… I know what’s happening to me. You don’t have to comfort me. Just take care of yourself,” Kellen whispers weakly.

Charles storms into the room, pointing an accusing finger at Tara. “Tara, your aunt has done nothing but love you! Now that she’s dying, you’re the only one who can save her. You’re really going to just watch her die?”

Before Tara can speak, Kellen forces herself up. “Charles, what are you talking about?! Are you trying to kill me with this stress?”

“Kellen, I’m doing this for you. Those shares belong to the family! She already cut ties with us! Why should she get to keep them?”

Kellen’s chest heaves violently, a flush of furious color returning to her pale cheeks. “Charles! Tara is my niece! The shares she holds were given to her by father! They have absolutely nothing to do with you!”
