The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Chapter 62

“Then why did you say you’d find someone to operate on her? You’re treating her life like a joke!” Alec demands.

“He’s right, Tara. I took the scans to Professor Maxwell, and even he didn’t have full

confidence,” Jade chimes in with fake sweetness. “Do you really think you can find a better doctor?”

Tara ignores their annoying chatter, walking straight to the bed and taking Kellen’s hand. “Don’t worry, Aunt Kellen. Today’s surgery will be a success.”

Kellen offers a frail smile. “I believe you, Tara.”

Charles scoffs at the exchange. “Believe her? You’re trusting her with your life? Think this through, Kellen!”

“Charles!” Kellen suddenly raises her voice. “It’s my life, and I don’t need any of you worrying about it!”

Jake narrows his eyes. “Aunt Kellen, you don’t actually think Tara can get Dr. T, do you?”

“Whoever Tara brings in, I’m willing to try. I’m already out of options anyway. Whether the surgery succeeds or fails, this is my choice, and it has nothing to do with her,” Kellen declares.

Jake turns his mocking gaze to Tara. “You’re going to get her killed. Dr. T is a ghost. Not even the International Medical Association can track him down. What makes you think you can?”

A faint smirk touches Tara’s lips. “Because I-”

The hospital room door suddenly swings open, cutting her off. Danny strides in, dressed in a sharp black suit and flanked by a team of doctors in white coats.

“The operating room is ready. We can begin,” he announces, his gaze sweeping over the Dennis family with a chilling, unspoken warning.

Tara nods. She leans down and whispers into Kellen’s ear, “Trust me, Aunt Kellen.”

The medical staff ushers the Dennis family out, and Kellen is wheeled toward the OR. Once her aunt is prepped, Tara heads out to scrub in.

Seeing her leave, Jade intentionally raises her voice. “Where are you going, Tara? Are you running away so you don’t have to take responsibility when the surgery fails?”

Tara shoots her a glacial glare. “Shut your mouth.”

With that, she signs the liability waivers and heads to the surgical prep room, slamming the locker room door behind her to shut out the noise.

She swiftly changes into her scrubs, secures her mask and cap, and takes a deep breath in front of the mirror. A fierce determination flashes in her striking eyes. She has to pull this off.

Slipping through a side door, Tara finishes her sterilization process and enters the secondary prep area. There, she spots a group of visiting surgeons. Because the consent forms list Dr. T as the lead surgeon, many of the hospital’s top surgical staff have gathered to observe. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and they are eager to see if Dr. T lives up to the legendary

rumors.

Tara remains completely unfazed. She steps into the operating room, her eyes landing on Kellen, who lies on the cold surgical table. Staring up at the ceiling, Kellen’s hands are balled into tight, nervous fists.

Hearing the door open, Kellen turns her head. Seeing a scrubbed-in surgeon approach, she swallows hard. In truth, she has very little hope for this procedure; she knows she might die on this table. But she wants to fight until the bitter end. She has already left her final wishes for the Rhodes family and her daughter. Now, all she can do is leave it in God’s hands.

Just then, the surgeon leans in and whispers softly, “Aunt Kellen, it’s me. I’m Dr. T. Don’t worry, just go to sleep. When you wake up, everything will be fine.”

Kellen’s eyes widen in absolute shock at the familiar voice.
