Chapter 63

Chapter 63

Kellen can hardly believe her eyes. Through the protective goggles, she recognizes those familiar, striking eyes. Tara is Dr. T!

Her pupils flare sharply. Trembling, she tries to reach up and grab Tara’s sleeve, but the anesthesia makes her limbs feel like lead.

“Tara…” she manages to whisper. Tears of shock and overwhelming relief well up in her eyes and a deep sense of calm washes over her.

Tara gently squeezes her aunt’s hand, leaning in close. “This is our little secret, Aunt Kellen. Just close your eyes and rest.”

The anesthesiologist adjusts the dosage, and Kellen’s eyelids grow heavy. In her final moments before slipping into darkness, she feels entirely at peace.

The overhead surgical lights flash on. Tara steps up to the operating table, her entire aura shifting from a young woman to an absolute master of her craft.

“Start the clock,” her cool, commanding voice echoes through the room. “Beginning the craniotomy.”

In the observation deck, the visiting surgeons hold their breath. A few even sneak out their phones to record. Down below, Tara’s hand is as steady as a rock, making a flawless, sweeping incision across the scalp.

“Drill,” she requests. The scrub nurse slaps the instrument into her palm instantly.

With a mechanical whir, a precise window is opened in the skull. Tara’s movements are fluid, completely devoid of hesitation. Every cut is swift, ruthless, and pinpoint accurate.

“My God,” a senior neurosurgeon in the gallery mutters. “That entry angle is insanely brilliant… It’s so unorthodox.”

“Blood pressure!”

“Hemostats!”

“Scalpel number eight!”

The surgery drags on for six grueling hours. Tara’s scrubs are soaked with sweat, and her assistant constantly dabs her forehead, but her focus never wavers. She remains fiercely concentrated, not letting up for a single second.

The observing doctors are completely spellbound. They feel incredibly privileged to witness Dr. T at work-this alone gives them bragging rights for the rest of their careers.

“Sutures!” Finally, the last step.

Chapter 63

Usually, the lead surgeon handles the main procedure and leaves the closing to an assistant. But Tara refuses to step back. The woman on the table is her family. She meticulously stitches the incision herself, turning the closure into a flawless work of art. The neatness of her work is nothing short of breathtaking.

“Surgery complete.” Tara finally straightens her aching back, her voice thick with exhaustion but ringing with triumph. “The tumor has been completely resected, with no damage to any major nerves or blood vessels.”

Thunderous applause erupts from the observation room. The veteran surgeons eagerly discuss what they just witnessed.

“Flawless! That entry angle was practically divine intervention!”

“Did you see how she handled that vessel wrapped around the tumor? It was a literal miracle.”

“Dr. T lives up to the hype. This surgery belongs in a textbook!”

Tara ignores the shower of praise. She remains laser-focused on checking Kellen’s post-op vitals. Only when she confirms her aunt is completely stable does she finally let out a long breath. Instructing another doctor to update the family, she heads to the locker room.

Out in the waiting area, the Dennis family is pacing anxiously. Jake checks his watch for the hundredth time. “It’s been six hours. Why haven’t we heard anything?”
