Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Tara freezes for a second before letting out a cold, sharp sneer. “Evan, you literally make me sick.”

She turns to walk away, but Evan grabs her wrist, his voice frantic. “Tara, please, let’s just

talk.”

“Let go of me!” Tara yanks her arm free, her eyes flashing with lethal warning. “Don’t make me despise you even more than I already do.”

The absolute frost in her stare sends a chill straight through Evan’s chest, and he instinctively drops his hand.

Right at that moment, a sickly sweet voice echoes down the hallway. “Evan!”

Jade hurries over, eagerly latching onto Evan’s arm while shooting Tara a triumphant, challenging glare. “Tara, how could you speak to Evan like that?”

Damn it! Why is Tara like a ghost that just won’t disappear? Yesterday, Jade intentionally leaked the news about Kellen just to test Evan’s reaction. She never expected him to actually show up at the hospital today. She is furious. Does he still have feelings for this bitch? Why else would he come running the second he heard the news? And now they are out here arguing like exes who still care. Jade’s eyes burn with pure, unfiltered resentment.

Tara can’t be bothered with this circus. She turns to leave, but Jade refuses to let her go, putting on her best wounded-puppy act.

“Tara, there’s really nothing going on between me and Evan. You’re completely

misunderstanding our situation! Please don’t treat him this way. He genuinely cares about

you.”

Tara stops, casting a sideways, icy glance at her. “Jade, you really think highly of yourself, don’t you? Let me make this clear: I’m not a recycling bin. I don’t take back trash.”

Jade’s face stiffens in horror.

“You pick up a man I threw away, treat him like a prize, and flaunt him in front of me,” Tara adds, a mocking smirk on her lips. “What, are you addicted to dumpster diving?”

Jade goes completely pale with rage. She turns to Evan, her voice trembling. “Evan, listen to her…”

But Evan just frowns. His eyes remain glued to Tara, completely tuning Jade out. He can’t get over how much Tara has changed. The woman standing before him is confident, radiant, and fiercely independent-a total contrast to the meek, submissive girl he used to know.

Seeing his reaction, panic claws at Jade’s throat. She bites her lip and suddenly clutches her stomach, leaning heavily against him with a look of sheer agony. “Evan… my stomach hurts

so much…”

Snapped out of his trance, Evan instinctively supports her. “What’s wrong?”

Tears well up in Jade’s eyes, making her look incredibly fragile. “I think I ate something bad.”

Tara openly rolls her eyes. This trick again? Does she not have a single new move in her playbook? The truly pathetic part is that Evan falls for it every single time. He genuinely believes Jade is too innocent and pure to ever tell a lie.

Catching Tara’s judgmental stare, Evan’s face changes, and he quickly tries to explain, “Tara, Jade isn’t feeling well-”

“You really don’t have a brain in that skull of yours, do you?” Tara interrupts with a scoff. She pins Jade with a piercing look. “Since you’re in so much agony, and we happen to be standing in a hospital, why don’t we get a doctor to run some tests?”

Jade pales even further, shrinking behind Evan. “N-no, that’s fine…”

“What’s wrong? Afraid of getting exposed? You should retire this little act; it’s getting stale,” Tara says, taking a slow, menacing step forward.

“Evan…” Jade grips his sleeve in panic, real fear flashing in her eyes.
