Chapter 67
Evan finally senses that something is off. He frowns, looking down at Jade. “Jade, what exactly…”
“I-I suddenly feel a lot better!” Jade quickly drops her hand, forcing herself to stand up straight. “It… it must have been because I was walking too fast.”
Tara lets out a laugh of pure disgust. She is done wasting her time on this pathetic clown show. She turns on her heel.
“Tara!” Evan calls out suddenly. “I-”
Without looking back, Tara throws her words over her shoulder, her tone like absolute ice. “Evan, if you ever show your face in front of me or my aunt again, don’t blame me for getting ugly.”
With that, she walks away, her posture resolute and unforgiving.
Evan instinctively takes a step to chase after her, but Jade yanks him back with an iron grip.
“Evan, is Tara mad at us?” she asks, a flicker of wicked satisfaction hiding in her eyes. Tara, what makes you think you can compete with me? He belongs to me.
Over the next few days, the Dennis family makes two more brief appearances, awkwardly chatting for a few minutes before leaving. Kellen couldn’t care less. Now that she knows exactly who they are, she can’t even be bothered to entertain them. Still, a hollow sense of disappointment lingers in her chest. To think her own brother traded his family for corporate shares.
After a week of observation, Kellen’s condition stabilizes, and she is discharged. Since she owns property in the city, she decides to recover at her own home, where she has hired staff to take care of her. Tara, still worried, visits frequently.
Once she is settled, Kellen calls the rest of her family to update them. Her daughter, Keira, immediately flies back from overseas. Seeing her aunt in good hands finally puts Tara’s mind at ease. The brush with death has convinced Kellen to cancel her plans of going abroad; she realizes this city is her true home and the best place to recuperate. Keira, having just graduated, decides to find a job locally so she can stay close and support her mother.
However, Tara finds one thing incredibly strange; her uncle-in-law, Douglas, hasn’t returned. His wife just survived a life-threatening brain tumor, and he can’t find the time to fly back? The thought makes Tara frown, but since Kellen doesn’t bring it up, she decides to keep her mouth shut.
Meanwhile, at Calhoun Manor-the most prestigious estate in the city. The glow of the setting sun washes over the massive red doors as the household staff stands in perfect alignment, heads bowed. “Good evening, Mr. Calhoun. Welcome home!”

Chapter 67
Danny gives a curt nod, his tall, tailored figure casting a sharp, commanding shadow in the fading light. Dressed in a flawless black suit, his gaze is razor-sharp. But before he even steps fully into the grand hall, a grating, sarcastic voice cuts through the air.
“Danny is perfect in every way, it’s just a shame… dragging that broken body around. Living must be pure torture.”
It is Uncle Garrison. Twirling a thumb ring, Garrison looks the picture of refined elegance in his pale grey suit, but every word out of his mouth is laced with poison.
The entire hall goes dead silent.
