Chapter 69

Chapter 69

When the weekend arrives, Bianca finally has a rare day off, so the two plan to grab lunch and go shopping before hitting the concert.

Ever since The Elite Circle aired, Tara’s popularity has skyrocketed. The show’s comment sections are flooded every day with fans begging her to take on new projects. Now, whenever she steps outside, she has to wear a mask just to avoid getting mobbed.

Arriving a little early, Tara decides to wander around the mall to kill time while waiting for Bianca. Suddenly, a tall man in dark sunglasses strides right up to her, grabs her wrist in a vice grip, and growls low, “Don’t scream. Come with me.”

Startled, Tara instinctively tries to rip her arm away, but the guy’s grip is terrifyingly strong. He practically drags her into an empty fire exit stairwell before she can fight back.

“Who the hell are you? Let me go!” she snaps in a hushed warning, paranoid about drawing crowd. After all, she isn’t exactly a nobody anymore.

The man rips off his sunglasses, revealing a strikingly handsome face edged with panic. It is

Jaden.

Tara freezes. “You… you’re Jaden?”

Jaden gives a curt nod, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. “Sorry. Emergency. I need a

favor.”

Tara is completely lost. “What favor?”

“I’m being hunted by paparazzi. I need cover to shake them off.”

With a few hours to kill before his concert, he had just wanted to relax, only to be relentlessly stalked by a pack of aggressive photographers. It made him absolutely sick.

Tara finally notices how erratic he looks; a thin layer of sweat coats his forehead. She frowns. “But we don’t even know each other…”

“I know exactly who you are, Tara. I watched your reality show,” Jaden interrupts, locking eyes with her. “Just consider this a favor I owe you.”

Tara is stunned. She realizes her mask must have slipped off at some point. He recognizes her? Why is the biggest superstar in the country watching her reality show? It’s absurd.

Before she can process it, chaotic footsteps echo outside the heavy door. She hears muffled voices yelling, “He went this way! This is our golden ticket, guys, don’t lose him!”

Jaden’s eyes darken. Without warning, his arm wraps around her waist, yanking her flush against his chest and spinning them around so his back faces the door. Caught completely off guard, Tara slams into him, immediately engulfed by the crisp, heavy scent of

cedarwood.

She automatically tries to shove him away, but he locks her against him. “Don’t move,” he commands from above her, his tone leaving zero room for argument. “Just play along.”

Right as Tara is about to fight back, the stairwell door cracks open and the paparazzi peek inside. She freezes instantly, too afraid to breathe.

Luckily, seeing what looks like a couple making out in the dark, the photographers decide not to ruin the moment and quickly rush off.
