Deanna glares at the younger woman, her hatred boiling over.

Seeing the unfiltered disgust in Deanna's eyes, Jade feels a flare of genuine irritation, but she forces it down. She still wants to see if she can salvage this pawn. "Mom, you misunderstand me!" she pleads, taking a tentative step forward. "I never meant for any of this to happen. I always wanted to treat my sister well. I tried so hard to get along with Tara. But no matter what I did, she refused to accept me. She targeted me, bullied me, and pushed me away until even my brothers couldn't stand to watch it anymore. You saw it happen, didn't you?"

Before the words even fully leave Jade's mouth, Deanna snaps. With a feral scream, she grabs a heavy crystal decoration from her nightstand and hurls it straight at Jade's head.

"Shut up!" Deanna shrieks, her voice cracking with hysteria. "Stop trying to twist the truth! You were the one planting the seeds of doubt! You drove Tara away!"

Caught completely off guard by the sudden violence, Jade scrambles backward. The crystal shatters against the floor, and a sharp piece of glass ricochets, slicing a thin, bloody line across her pale calf.

Jade stares at the blood welling on her flawless, meticulously cared-for skin. In a fraction of a second, the sweet, weeping daughter vanishes, replaced by a storm of pure, unadulterated fury.

She is entirely sick of this pathetic old woman.

"Fine! You're absolutely right!" Jade snaps, her voice dropping its sugary cadence, turning cold and vicious. "It was me. I pitted you all against each other. I drove the wedge between you and Tara. And what exactly are you going to do about it?"

If this naive, pampered housewife refuses to play along, Jade has no use for her anymore. Deanna is completely stripped of her value. In fact, getting her out of the way entirely means Jade and her real mother can finally walk through the front doors of the Dennis estate in broad daylight.
