Chapter 74
Chapter 74
Tara’s ears burn. She turns her face toward the window, feigning indifference. “I wasn’t looking that closely.”
Danny leans across the center console, his warm breath ghosting over the shell of her ear. “Is that so? Do you want to take a closer look at my body right now?”
Tara’s breath hitches. Before she can process the sheer audacity of his words, his hand shoots out, pinning her wrists to the plush leather seat. The heavy, musky scent of his cologne surrounds her.
His dark eyes are dangerously close, filled with a primal, possessive heat. “You were very bold tonight, Tara. From where I was standing, you looked pretty mesmerized by that pop
star.”
Her heart skips a beat. She tries to pull back, but his grip is unyielding. This is a total trap, and there is no way out of it.
“Let… let me go,” she stammers, squirming against him until her wrists turn pink from the
friction.
After a long, tense moment, Danny’s gaze softens just a fraction. He finally releases her wrists, shifting his hand to trace the curve of her lower lip with his thumb. “If you ever stare at another man like that again,” he murmurs, his voice rough, “you’ll have to deal with the consequences.”
Her cheeks flare crimson. “You are so domineering,” she mutters under her breath.
A low chuckle rumbles in his chest as he puts the car in drive. “Only with you.”
Tara sneaks a glance at his sharp jawline and the tight line of his mouth. He is still visibly on edge. She bites her lip, deciding to throw him a bone. “I really just went to keep Biancal company. I’m not interested in Jaden.”
It is the absolute truth. She has zero patience for men who preen and show off. Despite working adjacent to the entertainment industry, she can count the number of male celebrities she respects on one hand.
Danny taps the steering wheel. “Oh? Then why were you staring so hard?”
“I was spacing out!”
He arches a perfect eyebrow. “Spacing out in front of a half-naked man?”
Okay, this conversation is a lost cause. Tara clamps her mouth shut, knowing anything else she says will only dig her grave deeper. What exactly is this weird, possessive dynamic between them anyway?
Chapter 74
The black Maybach glides smoothly out of the garage, slicing through the night.
The moment they leave, a shadowy figure steps out from behind a concrete pillar. The private investigator stares at the exit, a triumphant smirk on his face, before quickly tapping his phone screen and sending off the freshly captured photos. Waiting all night in the damp garage had finally paid off.
Miles away, Garrison receives the encrypted file. He squints at the screen, a cruel smile twisting his lips as he studies the high-definition shots of Danny leaning intimately over Tara in the front seat of his car.
Who would have thought his ruthless nephew was such a romantic? He is practically knocking on death’s door, and he still has the energy to play house with a pretty girl?
