Chapter 77

The gala features relaxed round-table seating instead of rigid rows, allowing the city’s young elites to gossip, drink, and show off while the auctioneer presents the luxury items on stage.

Jade and Summer take their seats with their usual clique. Jade is a master at playing the sweet, accommodating friend, so she is deeply embedded in this circle of trust fund babies.

Spotting Tara and Keira walking past, Jade raises her voice just enough to ensure the surrounding tables can hear. “Tara! We have two empty seats right here. Come sit with us

She reaches out and grabs Tara’s wrist, her grip surprisingly tight, physically stopping her from walking away.

Tara sees the malicious glint in Jade’s eyes. She knows exactly what this snake is plotting. Instead of yanking her hand away and causing a scene, Tara offers a radiant, unbothered smile. “Sure. Thank you so much for the invite.”

With flawless elegance, Tara pulls Keira along and takes a seat, looking entirely at home. If Jade wants a front-row seat to a bloodbath, Tara is more than happy to provide it.

Thrilled that her trap is working, Jade turns to the table. “Everyone, this is my sister, Tara, and our cousin, Keira. I know you’ve all heard of them. Please make them feel welcome.”

The girls at the table look Tara up and down, their eyes filled with open contempt. Despite Jade’s sweet introduction, everyone in their circle knows she despises Tara, who is also a

notorious outsider.

A girl in a glittering couture gown covers her mouth and snickers. “Honestly, the standards for these charity events drop every year. They just let anyone walk through the doors now.”

Beside her, a girl with long, perfectly styled curls scoffs. “Tell me about it. We have girls who spent years hiding away in the middle of nowhere trying to play socialite. This circle is becoming an absolute joke because security refuses to weed out the desperate wannabes.”

The entire table bursts into harsh, mocking laughter. Summer exaggerates her amusement, her shoulders shaking as she giggles behind her hand.

Keira trembles with fury, gripping the edge of the table, ready to explode. Tara simply rests a calming hand over Keira’s.

Jade puts on her best concerned face, playing the peacemaker. “Girls, please, do it for me. My sister isn’t used to these kinds of events. Forgive her if she doesn’t know the etiquette.”

“We are only tolerating her because of you, Jade. Otherwise, I would have had security drag her out,” the curly-haired girl snaps. She then glares directly at Tara. “Listen to me closely. Do not cause a scene, and absolutely do not take any photos. If I see my face on your Instagram so you can pretend you hang out with us, I will sue you into oblivion. Know your place.”
