“Jade, don’t be afraid. We won’t let the men who did this get away with it,” Evan promises, his chest tightening with a profound ache as he looks down at her battered body.

Did Tara really do this?

“Evan, take her to the hospital immediately. We’ll handle these pieces of trash,” Jake orders sharply.

Jade’s heart nearly stops. She absolutely cannot let her brothers interrogate these men right now, or her entire scheme will be blown wide open. These thugs were hired to do a job, and they genuinely believe they were attacking Tara. When she tried to explain who she was, they completely ignored her.

If they start talking and drag Shane into this, she will be entirely ruined.

Jade weakly grips Evan’s collar, fresh tears spilling down her swollen cheeks. “Jake… it hurts so much. I’m so scared. Please, let’s just go. I don’t want to look at them anymore…”

Seeing her look so small and terrified, Evan’s heart breaks. He holds her tighter, his voice dropping to a soothing murmur. “Okay. Don’t worry, we’re leaving right now. Everything is going to be fine.”

Evan has always been completely defenseless against Jade’s tears. Just days ago, he had been considering making peace with Tara over the company shares, but seeing Jade in this pathetic state instantly solidifies his loyalties.

Hidden against his chest, a sinister smirk tugs at the corner of Jade’s lips. Even though her face throbs with pain, she knows her performance is flawless.

She looks up at Evan through her tear-soaked lashes, her voice trembling perfectly. “Evan… thank God you came. If you hadn’t…”

Evan’s grip tightens protectively. “Don’t think about it. I’m right here.”

Nikolai shoots a disgusted glare at the groaning men on the floor and turns to his brother. “Jake, let’s lock them up for now. We can deal with them once Jade is stable.”

Jake nods, a lethal glint in his eyes. “Anyone who dares touch a member of this family will wish they were dead.”

Jade’s pulse races. She has to contact Shane immediately. As long as these thugs insist Tara paid them, her setup will still succeed. Taking advantage of the chaos as Evan carries her out, she discreetly pulls out her phone and shoots a rapid text to Shane, ordering him to clean up this disaster before it traces back to them.

The moment Shane replies confirming he is on it, a massive weight lifts off Jade’s chest. She deletes the messages instantly, slumping back into Evan’s arms to play the victim.

Meanwhile, Tara returns home to find Danny sitting quietly in the living room

“What are you doing here?” Tara asks, genuinely surprised.

“Why weren’t you answering your phone?” Danny asks, visibly exhaling in relief when he sees she is completely unharmed.

“I went out to get some specialized ingredients for your treatment. I ran into a bit of trouble on the way,” Tara replies casually.
