Jovani is notoriously paranoid. She never gives anyone the full picture.
Charles's death had nearly broken Nathaniel. Charles wasn't just a boss; he was a mentor who had taught Nathaniel everything about survival in the corporate underworld. When Charles died, Nathaniel felt completely unmoored, like a soldier without a commander. Realizing he couldn't dig much deeper into Jovani's secrets anyway, he decided it was time to step out of the shadows and help Tara directly.
"What's your next move?" Tara asks. After a moment of thought, she adds, "The Dennis Group has a major branch overseas. I can transfer you there as an executive director."
Now that his cover is blown, Jovani will absolutely put a target on his back. Given how much he knows about her operations, the vicious woman won't hesitate to order a hit to keep him quiet.
"I'll follow your lead," Nathaniel says simply.
His message is clear: he just wanted to prove his loyalty. He is perfectly willing to step aside and let her command his future.
"Done. I'll arrange a private security detail to keep you safe. Once the dust settles here, you can come home."
Tara knows Nathaniel is a lone wolf with no wife or kids to tie him down. Relocating overseas won't be a massive burden for him. Who knows, maybe he'll even find someone and settle down away from the chaos.
"Don't worry about me. I know how to disappear."
Tara completely believes him. You don't survive as a double agent in Jovani's inner circle for years without knowing how to cover your tracks.
"Before you go—do you know where my dad hid the data drive?" Tara asks. Her mentor had tasked her with finding the encrypted backup, but despite tearing the city apart, she had found nothing. If anyone knew, it would be Charles's right-hand man.
