Tara tells him everything about the conversation and the warning Nathaniel gave her.
"I have to admit, I didn't see the double-agent angle coming," Danny says, genuinely impressed. He had been fully convinced Nathaniel had sold his soul to Jovani. The Monroe family's loyalty is clearly unshakeable.
Still, the fact that such a brilliant operative has to be exiled overseas to avoid a hit squad feels deeply unfair.
"Don't let it weigh on you. Once we burn Jovani's empire to the ground, you can bring him back," Danny says, steering the car through the quiet streets, sensing her guilt.
"I know. He knows the Dennis Group inside and out. He'll crush it at the overseas branch."
Whenever Nathaniel wants to return, a top-tier executive seat will be waiting for him. If he prefers the quiet life abroad, she will let him rule the international division.
Tara can't help but feel a pang of regret. If she had known Nathaniel was on her side, rebuilding the Dennis Group would have been significantly easier. Jovani had clearly suspected him, keeping him close enough to monitor but far enough to protect her core secrets. It takes a terrifying amount of mental fortitude to play the loyal dog to a monster without ever compromising the foundation of the Dennis empire.
Her fingers absently twist the fabric of her skirt as she pictures the quiet exhaustion in Nathaniel's eyes before he left.
Noticing her tension, Danny slows the car. He reaches over, his large, warm hand covering hers. The heat of his palm seeps through her skin, grounding her instantly.
