Chapter 94
Chapter 94
“Tara, why don’t we have a little race?” Jade suggests, her eyes glittering with malice.
Tara doesn’t even bother acknowledging her. From years of bitter experience, anything that comes out of Jade’s mouth is a trap.
Taking Tara’s silence as fear, Jade’s confidence skyrockets. “Well? It’s just a friendly match,” she says, batting her eyelashes while her gaze remains toxic. “Or are you terrified of losing me?”
The commotion draws the attention of nearby riders.
Keira tightens her grip on the reins, furious. “Back off, Jade. You’re crossing a line.”
Tara suddenly lets out a soft, mocking laugh. “Sure.”
If she is this desperate to humiliate herself, Tara is more than happy to oblige. She looks Jade up and down. “What are we betting?”
A calculating gleam flashes in Jade’s eyes. “The loser has to drop to her knees and publicly beg for forgiveness. How about that?”
The mere thought of forcing Tara to beg sends a rush of adrenaline straight to Jade’s head.
Evan frowns deeply. “Jade, stop it. That’s taking things too far.”
Tara simply smiles, her gaze turning ice-cold. “If you enjoy the thought of dropping to your knees and begging that much, I’ll happily grant your wish.”
Jade’s face flushes with rage. She won’t be the one begging! She has years of professional coaching, while Tara is nothing but a pathetic amateur.
“Fine! It’s a deal!” Jade tilts her chin up, looking utterly triumphant. She turns to Evan, immediately playing the victim. “Evan, you have to be our witness.”
This is the perfect opportunity to prove her superiority. Evan has been staring at Tara all afternoon, and it is driving Jade insane. She needs him to see that Tara is nothing compared
to her.
Evan looks torn, glancing anxiously between the two women. “This bet is ridiculous. There’s no need-”
“If you aren’t racing, stay out of it and keep quiet,” Tara cuts him off, her voice dangerously
calm.
A few feet away, Danny watches the exchange, a faint, proud smirk touching his lips. He has absolute faith in Tara. This girl called Jade doesn’t stand a chance. Given how much grief her family has put Tara through, he is more than happy to sit back and watch her teach the brat a brutal lesson.
