Chapter 97

Left with absolutely no way out, Jade forces herself onto her knees in the dirt. She bites her lower lip so hard it bleeds, her eyes radiating pure, unadulterated venom.

Tara stands tall, looking down at her. “Let this be a lesson. Keep your twisted games away from me, or next time, I won’t be so forgiving.”

Jade’s teeth grind together. Forgiving? She practically destroyed her!

“You haven’t apologized yet,” Keira chimes in from the sidelines, thoroughly enjoying the show.

Through gritted teeth, Jade forces out a pathetic, barely audible, “I’m sorry.”

Tara gives her one last dismissive glance and turns her back. As she walks away, a sharp wave of pain flares from her torn palms, making her wince, though she doesn’t make a

sound.

Danny steps directly into her path, his expression dangerously tight. “Your hands are bleeding. You need medical attention.”

“It’s just a scrape,” Tara says flatly.

“You are a doctor. You know the risks of infection better than I do. I’ll have the first aid kit brought to my office,” Danny says, his tone leaving zero room for argument. He reaches out and firmly wraps his fingers around her wrist.

Tara instinctively tries to pull away, but the sheer intensity in his dark eyes makes her freeze.

Suddenly, Evan sprints over. “Tara, let me take you to the hospital!”

He is desperate to play the hero and win back some points.

Danny doesn’t even blink, throwing Evan a look that could freeze water. “I suggest you take care of your date, Evan. She looks like she belongs in a dumpster.”

Evan stiffens. He glances back at Jade, who is sobbing pitifully in the mud, and the urge to

chase after Tara dies.

Seeing him look back, Jade wails loudly. “Evan, I swear I didn’t mean it! It was an accident!”

Just then, Alec comes jogging out of the VIP lounge. He had run into an old friend and spent the last hour drinking in a luxury suite. The moment he heard rumors of a scandal involving the Dennis family, he bolted out.

“Jade! What happened? Are you hurt?” Alec demands, rushing to her side.

“Alec!” Jade cries out, acting thoroughly victimized. “I… I lost a race, and Tara forced me to drop to my knees and beg!”

“What?!” Alec roars, his face turning red with fury. That bitch! Who does she think she is?

A wave of loud boos and disgusted scoffs erupts from the surrounding crowd

“Gross. Playing the victim after trying to kill that poor girl.”

“She’s the one who set the terms of the bet! Now she’s crying because she lost.”

“Maybe she should have thought about the consequences before throwing nails on a race
