Chapter 98
Chapter 98
Danny’s lethal glare stops him dead in his tracks.
Luke’s eyes widen as the realization hits him. He lets out an awkward, booming laugh. “Oh! Right! Man, I totally forgot. I have a massive… business date. Very important. Rain check on dinner, Tara!”
He winks at her, spins on his heel, and practically sprints to his car.
Danny is ruthless, but seeing his emotionally stunted friend finally making a move on a woman is a miracle. Luke will happily play the wingman, especially since the media is already starting to question why the two billionaire bachelors spend so much time together/ He has a playboy reputation to uphold.
Tara watches him run off, entirely speechless.
Danny casually adjusts his cuffs, completely unbothered. “What are you craving?”
Tara glances at him. “How about fondue?”
“The Gilded Palate it is. Their cheese fondue is excellent,” Danny decides instantly.
Thirty minutes later, they are seated inside The Gilded Palate.
Tara stares at the boiling, aromatic fondue, then up at Danny. He has removed his suit jacket, leaving him in a crisp, expensive dress shirt that screams old money.
In the corporate world, Danny is known as a ruthless apex predator. Since his illness, he has practically vanished from the public eye. If his rivals could see him right now, rolling up his sleeves to dip sliced ingredients into a pot of cheese, their jaws would hit the floor.
Danny meticulously cooks a slice of sausage and places it onto her plate. “Try this. It’s their signature cut.”
“Thank you,” Tara says softly.
She takes a bite. The rich, savory flavor bursts on her tongue, and a genuine, satisfied smile touches her lips.
Danny watches her, his own lips curving upward. “Good?”
“Very,” Tara nods, her usual cold exterior melting away.
“Eat as much as you want,” Danny says, his voice thick with an undeniable, indulgent warmth. He pauses, his gaze turning serious. “You don’t need to hold back against the Dennis family. Whatever you want to do, do it. I have your back. I am your blank check.”
He has watched the Dennis family verbally abuse and humiliate her one too many times. Discarding their own flesh and blood for a toxic adopted brat-it is repulsive.

Tara freezes, her fork hovering in the air. She looks at him, a bright, slightly guarded smile spreading across her face. “Thank you.”
Before the moment can settle, a shrill voice slices through the ambient noise of the restaurant.
“Tara? Is that really you? I thought you moved abroad!”
